Here, in Australia, we've just heard a report that has found the same systemic racism among our police departments. Are racists and thugs inherently drawn to jobs like this?

Our news just wasn't showing it, and realistically, they weren't showing this even after October 7th. As people found their own way to source the truth of the massacre, the news decided they should get in on the clicks, too. The fact that the New York Times still hasn't redacted their completely untrue October 7th article that helped launch the American support for the massacre is telling. While you don’t get to vote for president, you also don’t pay federal income tax. How would the residents of Puerto Rico feel about having to pay federal income taxes? Most of the time privileges come with accompanying responsibilities. It’s worth considering the consequences of what you’re saying you want. If Puerto Rico really does want to have full voting rights and representation, they need to become a state and take on all the responsibilities that, that entails.

As an Irish person, that statement made by PMI at 26:32 sounds a lot like the phrasing of some of our old Brehon laws, the national system of laws that Ireland used for centuries before we were colonised by England in 1167. For example, Ireland had the first copyright law that we know of. It was written "as to every cow its calf, to every book its copy". So yeah it might have been an attempt to bastardise our ancestors' culture, which honestly feels about right for PMI

Also consider, the first "American" shot fired at an enemy ship during WWI was fired at a German vessel from "El Morro" in San Juan ..... There have been Generals, Admirals, ... Scientists working in Antarctica and Astronauts in Space. ..... YET ..... When two devastating "back to back" hurricanes struck the island in 2017 - half the people on the mainland DID NOT KNOW Puerto Rico was part of the USA. ..... (PS: NINE months without electricity, ... a "Politician" threw paper towels and suggested trading Puerto Rico for Greenland ..... Also note, in 1984 the Reagan administration changed federal bankruptcy laws so that Puerto Rico could not file for Chapter 11.)

@@Spearca Heh, and should Wyoming...?
@TheREALJosephTurner
@TheREALJosephTurner 29 күн бұрын
@@Spearca That's the whole idea of Senators- it's not supposed to be a representation of the population number. To help this make sense, Wyoming is our least populous state with a little over half a million people, while California is our most populous state with a little over 39 million people. Math it out, and Cali has 38.5 million MORE people than Wyoming - yet each state only has two Senators. Now, if you compare Wyoming's population with American Samoa's 43.5 thousand people, Wyoming has a bit more than half a million more people than American Samoa. The population difference for California & Wyoming is around 72 TIMES GREATER than the population difference between Wyoming & American Samoa. So if Wyoming has the same number of Senators as California, there is no reason American Samoa shouldn't have the same number of Senators as Wyoming- that number, by design, being exactly two.
@Spearca
@Spearca 29 күн бұрын
@@TheREALJosephTurner I know how the Senate works. The men who originally wrote that compromise into the Constitution did not anticipate that the disparity between large and small states would ever get so large. Given that people do already complain about Wyoming and other dinky states, I'm just pointing out that it would be a problem for territories that are even smaller.

A dance is only meaningful when danced, Yet lungs wheeze, dreams are chanced. In smoky haze where shadows prance, Life's vigor wanes in a fleeting trance. Beneath the cloud of ashen blight, Two lungs struggle, fight the night. Coughs and whispers, a troubled sight, Each drag, each breath, a diminishing light. Hand in hand, with danger close, In a world where smoke's shadow grows. Health departs, the damage shows, In every wheeze, in every woe. For what is life but a fleeting chance, A melody lost in smoky expanse? A dance is only meaningful when danced, Yet smoke's grip leads to life's mischance.

That 3 hour video was playing the same music as some asmr videos I’ve seen. Is that royalty free from KZfaq or something??

The ironic part of Daylight Savings is that it would give you more benefit to adjust the clocks for winter so daytime workers get some sunlight after work. As in many parts of the world winter sees the best hours of the day lost to employment.

I used to love the segments John did at the beginning and end. Why he stopped, I don’t know. Probably his corporate overlords. Free John Oliver!

For reference, "Herbie" is the star in a movie series about a stockcar Beetle that comes alive and goes out on adventures battling industious criminal lowlives in various constellations. I saw one of the movies and had a pretty good time even though I had come for Return of the Jedi but wasn't allowed in due to being too young.

Brilliant as always, regarding the Fanta reference, I believe I read some years ago that Coca-Cola intentionally changed the name as to not be identified with Germany. Just checking

Why is season 2 being released now? Is it to make the HBO max content public now? I just wasn't expecting to rewatch old content cause I've been a follower of John's since 2015, I'm happy it's on YT now, was just wondering if the release on YT was due to contract stuff ending or if it was to make his old content free and accessible to all - he mentioned once that was his goal so just wondering if he's starting that again

Huh. I drink a lot of Fanta. I know I've seen this episode when it aired, and I have *completely* forgotten about that. 😅
