Billys whip in Stone Spray Sandwich is still one of gnarliest i´ve seen. Such a great guy, a factory team should hire him for R&D or perhaps even racing he is still going fast!

What a cool guy. Really enjoyed learning Billy's story. Would be awesome if he goes for it and qualifies for a supercross main event. I will no doubt be rooting for him.

Awesome! What a great guy. I know I shouldn’t be surprised because nearly every pro motocross racer I have ever met, or seen engaged within an in depth conversation, were cool and interesting guys. Another terrific interview for the sports’ archive. And oh man, if he races again!!!! That would be amazing!

I can't believe he's coming back to race supercross at 40, in the 250 class at that! Has only ridden 12 times since retiring in 2016 and it looks like he hasn't missed a beat. We need 75ft finish line double using comp ramps, let these guys toss some big seat bounce whips! Billy was one of my favorites to watch throw a whip and ride in the hills. I want to say he'll qualify in the fast 40 for the night show and if he makes a main, that'll be a huge accomplishment. He's got a lot of natural talent and experience to draw from, so I don't want to say it's impossible but it'll be hard. Especially in the class where HP is everything and he's on TEAM FAITH so i don't picture the equipment being that good, but he's starting on the best platform which is the Yamaha so that's good

Good interview with someone I wasn't familiar with... I think as much as we enjoy hearing these men's life stories, it has also pulled back the curtain on how damaging this sport is/was. I sure agree with seat time being the most important thing a rider can do. In my years of doing turnaround consulting in the manufacturing industry, I always wanted to know what area of business the owner was educated in, had experience or interest in, for there was always an overallocation of resources within those areas of the company. I see the same with these "expert" trainers who push a lot of road bicycling because they were comfortable and competent in this discipline that is irrelevant to racing a dirtbike. I know people will say it builds cardio, but so does running long motos on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays. I think the earlier these kids get trainers that push low-fat diets and lots of off-the-bike training are creating a generation of china dolls that are ill-prepared for what this brutal sport demands.

Road bike training is a way to push the body that doesn't beat the rider up like being on the bike does and with less risk. How many top level riders have you trained ? Any of them SX or MX champions ?

@@bobbybishop5662 Sorry, I wasn't looking for any confrontation here. I do have a little different perspective on the sport since I put my entire life into going pro back in the late 70s. I'm told I had the speed of a top ten 125-C class rider so I knew what I'm talking about here. I keep hearing people today say RC and Aldon were the ones who took training seriously for the first time. This is not true for I trained like an animal and rode and rode and rode to get comfortable on the edge. I keep seeing these kids not having the bike skills that they need and are thus crashing all too often. Their low-fat bird food diets are weakening their bodies and thus making them delicate. Sorry... no arguing with a top ten 125-C class racer with two trophies to my name.... your credentials?

@@craighelgerson2698 Your comment about road bike training is all I addressed . I don't know what kids your talking about not having the bike skills. That's ridiculous , the top riders coming out of the amateurs are the best riders the US has ever produced and they get better every year.
@craighelgerson2698

@@bobbybishop5662 I think the best example of the young kids coming up through the amateurs not getting enough seat time was when Haiden Deegan & Jordan Smith went at each other early on. Even after years as a pro Jordan still looks pensive on a dirtbike while H.D. could have pushed him around while sitting on the bike backward... In my expert top ten 125-C class amateur opinion.

@@craighelgerson2698 Well Smith has been a Pro since 2015 so he's no kid , D boy is a dang rookie , perfect example of how much faster the new kids coming up are compared to some one like Smith came up a few years prior. D boy is exceptional but there have been other riders that have recently moved up that have consistently beat Smith. The new kids are just faster each year.

Old audio guy here. Yes, they might be running a noise gate on the microphones which automatically mutes the mics when the volume is below the set threshold. Noise gates have their place, but this isn't one of them.

@@davidpingree9254 Thank you for reaching out, I will try to keep this slightly shorter than a Marvin Musquin podium interview. The audio issue happens throughout Billy’s interview, but it didn’t take long to find these examples at: 5:46 - we cannot hear him say: “…...shoulder - what are you doing?” 6:08 - can’t quite lip read well enough to figure out what he said here. 6:27 - can’t hear what he says after “not a whole lot of time on the bike………” Upon re-listening to the interview with the volume cranked, you can hear the muted words being picked up by your mic, or perhaps an ambient room mic. As a retired audio guy with over 40 years in the business, I have to give you props for the great improvement in the overall sound quality and better microphone positioning over the past few months. Thank you for your service as a first responder and for the great WTM content.
