In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic police interceptor. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

This Caprice is the last body on frame Chevy Sedan made while the Crown Victoria was the last body on frame car made in North America. The 95-96 Caprice is my favorite model in the 4th generation model range this model & the newer Holden source PPV are my favorites in the Caprice model range.

These cars are simply great! Spacious, comfortable and available with some power if you wanted. I have 2 of them, a 92 Caprice Classic and a 93 9C1. The 9C1 has the 5,7 TBI Engine. Not as quick as an LT1 but more reliable. It is astonishing how durable these cars were. It is now 24 years old with over 160k miles and it still drives pretty good. Everyone who has one should take good care of it. These cars are potential classics!

09infintig37x Have a 93 with the L05 and the Engine runs pretty well for its age. Made a compression test. Every single Piston had between 1100 and 1200 kpa. A friend of mine had about 20 of them and he also prefers the TBI Engines when it is about reliability. The Gen 2 Engines are of course more fun but the L05 with the 3.42 rear end is definetely no slouch.

I was issued a 1996 caprice with the 350CID, 265 HP engine with dual exhaust(our 96's had single exhaust). It was a relatively quick car with the certified speedometer registering 134MPH top end. Without the top light bar it may have been a little bit faster. We started getting Crown Vics also in 96, and they would edge around our Chevys on the top end. Also had more leg room in the Fords. Had a 350+ pound prisoner that had to have two pair of cuffs on and he wouldn't fit in the Caprice; had to have a Crown Vic transport for me. In 26 years I had a Fury (Ply), St. Regis (Dodge),Diplomat (Dodge)X2, Impala (Chev), and a Caprice (Chev). The Caprice was the most trouble free (maintenance wise) of all these cars with the Fury being the fastest 440CID w/ dual quads-cross ram which was our pursuit version. Our other Furys had 440's with a single 4bbl. The Furys had the best sounding exhaust. Had to turn the radios up when accelerating with these cars because of the exhaust noise.

The Crown Vic was a lot more reliable. The Caprices didn't make it past the 100K miles, every department sold them at around 2000, that was the time to buy them at police actions.

Whoever did that car up, did a good job. That exhaust sounds great, very throaty. And Chevy's police name is the 9C1 package, so this would be a 9C1 Caprice.

they are known as the 9C1 &9C3 POLICE PACKAGE caprice i call them copolice classic :) 9C3 ,unmarked/undercover and sport apperence packages were police options ,9C1 were mostly marked /prewired withlights options , great cars,i still got alot of stuff from GM fleet including those hard to find baseball caps that everyone wants who collects these cars

It's good to always have one for trying to drive more efficiently and when you have a problem, knowing the RPM range where a symptom happening is very helpful in diagnosing issues.

Don't police interceptors have like "Extra Heavy Duty" cooling systems. Is that what all the light blue hoses are...the ones connected to that huge reservoir?

it's actually the air pump/ emission's pump. it mean's tha the car is in very good working order!. and will pass an emission's test no problem at all. everything is working properly. i own a 1996 impala ss. and my car doe's the same exact sound when i first start it up. VERY STRONG! AND VEERY FAST CAR'S!!!!! WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MY 1996 IMPALASS i went right out on the longest stretch of highway i could find. and almost toped her out at 155mph. that's pretty damn good for stock! WOW!.

After I crashed mine (same car but a 96) and fixed it back up again, I tried putting the impala grill on it. Sadly it doesn't fit right so I may have to get another one. It's a great car though. I absolutely love it.

Dammn. In Sweden we only have like Volvos, Saabs and VW's as police cars. In America you got huge Chevys, Dodges and Fords with big V8's. Im a little jealous, haha

the engine has not been tweaked, it is the same motor as in the roadmaster, and civilian caprice and Impala...the only difference is the computer has been tuned differently. you might get anywhere from 135 to 150mph....horsepower rating is the same as the Impala SS, roadmaster, and civilian caprice which is 260hp/330lbs torque.....

and these came in two different 9c1 packages....one had the 4.3L V-8 and the other was the big boy 350 LT-1 similar to the motor in the corvette.

we have a 1979 caprice classic coupe it was my grandmas untill she died it has a cesset player in it from when it was bilt lol. its white with a blue top and has been a daliy driver since my grandparents bought it in 1981 not that much anymore though and we just recintly found out it has a light in the trunk lol

Sounds like Google/KZfaq muted the audio portion of this video. A shame too as the Caprice was much preferred over the Ford in many departments. It was a very quick car for its size.

@jango1968 its for the trunk release they put it there for the police interceptors because it is more convinient for the cop over there other than it being in the glove box and all the equipment and computer in the way

@Rorycarguy No two different models, Caprice was more like a luxury car and the Impala was like a performance sedan (like Dodge Charger or Mercury Marauder) in these years. When the Impala returned for 2000 model year it became more like what the Caprice used to be, and the Impala SS trim level was the performance version.

Even if that 1995 Chevy Caprice had a Nascar or latest Camaro engine swaps as options, the transmission must change to high gear ratios for that car faster than 200 mph.

@R8RFanSam I own a 1993 Caprice Classic LS and that's where the trunk release button is located. It's not the same switch one mine but I guess it does the same...
