Wir hatten Glück und das Kraftwerk war außer Betrieb, sodass das ganze Wasser nicht durch den Kraftwerkskanal, sondern durch die tolle Schlucht bei der Festung Luftenstein floss. Mit 69.5m³/s bei Mittelwasser war auch ordentlich Druck in der Schlucht, sodass die anfänglichen Kilometer Warmpaddeln sehr gut getan haben, die schön anzusehen, aber kaum mehr als WW I mit ein paar WW II Stellen aufweist. Nach der Umtragung des Kraftwerks geht es ziemlich bald in die Schlucht mit tollen Felsen, vielen Kehrwässern, wuchtigen Wellen und Walzen allesamt bei gutem Gefälle. Schade nur, dass die Schlucht viel zu kurz ist und relativ bald die Kernsteller "Korkenzieher", der bei dem vielen Wasser besser rechts durch die mittlere Durchfahrt gefahren werden sollte. Aber Achtung: das Wasser zieht stark in die Mitte, das Kehrwasser davor sollte man erwischen. Danach folgen noch ein paar schöne Felskombinationen, ehe es zum nächsten Wehr mit einer kaum sichtbaren Bootsrutsche in der Mitte geht. Zum Glück helfen die Slalomstangen bei der Einfahrt. Am Ende der Rutsche lauert eine wuchtige, mehr als 1 Meter hohe Walze - spült aber gut durch :-) Bei dann nur noch WW I bis II geht es auf den letzten Metern bis zum Campingplatz Grubhof. Auf dem Weg gibt es noch die eine oder andere kleine Welle und Stein zum Rock-Splatten - mehr aber auch nicht. Wer will, kann die Slalomstrecke bei WW III bis IV in Lofer mit einplanen und noch 2 Kilometer dran anhängen.

We were lucky and the power plant was out of operation, so all the water flowed through the awesome gorge near Luftenstein Fortress instead of the power plant channel With 695m³/s at average water level, there was quite a bit of pressure in the gorge. The initial warm-up kilometers were good, with nice views, but it was mostly WW I with a few WW II sections. After portaging around the power plant, we soon entered the gorge with impressive rocks, lots of eddies, powerful waves, and holes. Unfortunately, the gorge is very short and soon the core obstacle Corkscrew appears, which should be navigated to the right through the middle passage due to the high water level. But be careful: the water pulls strongly towards the center, you better catch the eddy before it. After that, there are a few beautiful rock combinations before reaching the next weir with a barely visible boat chute in the middle - fortunately, the slalom poles help with the entry. At the end of the chute, there awaits a powerful, more than 1 meter high hole - but it flushes through well. On the last stretch to Campingplatz Grubhof, there are a few small waves and rocks to navigate, but not much else. Whoever wants to can include the slalom course at WW III to IV in Lofer and add another 2 kilometers.
