========= Livgardet LYRICS =========
I frid

He is singing about swedish greatness during 500 years of piece and war, but he forgot to sing how the sweeds tried to make the baltic sea their own internal lake by invading countries robbing their welth and then... Actually, the phrase "knä om knä" has been translated as "side by side" or "shoulder by shoulder" as in a standing position. The true meaning "knee behind knee" is for cavalry. They rode in a v-formation so close to eachother that one riders knee was just behind the next one, so the width between the horses was just one leg. This very tight formation was really hard to break, and caused panic for the footmen, since there where no way to escape to be trampled. It was one of the reasons Sweden won the Battle of Lund (mention in the lyrics) facing a much bigger army. Very nice detail of Sabaton to include in the song.

I mean a cool bit of history but "knä om knä" translates to "side by side" as you said, "the true meaning" isn't "knee behind knee" that's called google translate. "Knä om knä livgardet går" doesn't really fit cavalry either as it would translate to "Knee behind knee the lifeguard march/walk". If it was about cavalry wouldn't it be something like "charge" instead of "march"? It's interesting that you could read that much into it but it probably just means "Side by side the lifeguard march", I guess we'll have to wait until the English version drops but they might change the lyrics entirely as they did with some of their old songs.

It's good to hear Joakim sing in Swedish again. When singing in English he deepens his voice in a way that has never stopped sounding awkward to me. It sounds more clear and genuine when he does it like this. It's a big reason why Carolus Rex is still my favourite in their discography. For this reason, I guess you can consider me quite stoked for this album.

@erikdahlgren6656

Might be because they use quite heavy words in the lyrics, both emotional and prenounced. Plus the "tone" of the scandinavian tounges are so different so he might need that extra power to get it out good. You can also listen to the difference in other metal bands that jump between english and swedish. Could be because the singing tradition here is so melodic in almost a kind of medieval way and the metal bands often seem to fall back to that comfort. Just like all metal bands really. They are all coloring the genre with thier own national musical traditions. And we can all unite under the banner of "HELL YEAH!!"🤘🤘

@@slkjvlkfsvnlsdfhgdght5447 People from the region Dalarna (translated: The Dales or The Valleys). When Gustav Vasa (who would later become the first "official" king of Sweden) sought aid against the Danish king occupying much of Sweden at the time, it was the people of Dalarna who joined him first. As part of that, they selected 16 men (dalkarlar in swedish, dalecarlia, or 'men of the Dales' in english) to act as his body guards, thus making them the first royal body guards. As we had the riding change of military service at Stockholm castle in our duty, we had to learn how to ride and take care of the horses. A very joyful and memorable time of my life. Thank you Sabaton for your tribute! This video was awesome! Best regards to all of you in the production. /MickeP

So I don't know if you all take suggestions from comments, you all probably already have a lot in the works and my comment will probably get buried, but if you haven't already you have got to make a song about Admiral Yi. The cliffnotes of his story are: Impressed military instructors with archery but broke his leg during the cavalry part of the exam, healed up, came back, passed, got posted to a district near the border, fought so well his superiors got jealous and accused him of desertion, went to prison, came back with his rank gone, eventually rises up the ranks to become the commander of the Left Jeolla Naval District where he basically helped invent the Turtle Ship, a battleship with a huge metal shell on it. After all this, during the Japanese invasions of Korea, Yi won twenty three victories. Eventually, during his last fight, he had been beating a drum when he was killed. His last command was for a nearby soldier to keep beating the drum so nobody knew he had fallen.
