White Friday, look it up. 1916 in the Alps. One of my top 5 Sabaton songs. With Sabaton, their music is very good, but it's the history theme that makes them special. (Oh, and seeing them live in two days!)

The music was written by Chris Rorland (the guitarist with the solo) and vocalist Joakim Broden with lyrics by bassist Par Sundstrom. This started as an experiment by Chris and Joakim to write a fun, enjoyable song as a tribute to '80 heavy metal (thus the synth in the beginning). The song was from an idea submitted by a fan and Joakim feels lyrically this is one of their best.

The song is from the most recent 10th album, The War To End All Wars, you've done Christmas Truce and Stormtroopers from it already. December 1916 on the Italian front, up in the alps where avalanches were common, thousands died, some are still there today. Some reports said that both sides were shelling the snowpack above their enemies trying to cause an avalanche and bury them. About winter fighting in the alps, and the band filmed their parts in a parking lot in very hot weather. LOL. Also from this album, check out "Dreadnought", "The Unkillable Soldier", and the animated story video for "Lady of the Dark".

I think the 80s synth sound is replicating the echoing throughout the mountains. If it is, that’s really creative.

If I may suggest 2 songs that don't get enough love from reactors imo- that would be "Valley of Death" from the newest album and "Hearts of Iron" .. if you feel like it, check them out and maybe the Sabaton History episodes about it.. greetings from Germany, keep up the good work!

this mainly is about the 1916 event called White Friday (but really took place on a Wednesday) were several avalanches buried soldiers and civilians on both sides and many of the bodies are still their on the MT. you should Deff watch the Sabaton History eps. on the song - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8Bkdq1qy5OudZc.html , i read somewhere that early on in the fighting a Austro-Hungarian soldier shot a Italian soldier while he was climbing and as he fell took 2 others with him down the cliff , after that the Austro-Hungarian taunted them with shouts of "Welcome to Heaven"
