It is really important for all of us modern craftsmen to get our hands on the real deal. As well as learning to use them properly tbh. Especially swords & other weapons. One can't get those little details in how they balance, their construction etc without it & learning to use them helps understand why they made some of the choices in design.

It's funny I go through fort Gratiot almost daily and have never thought that it was an actual fort at one time with real artifacts. Cool Information thanks

I think the "recurve" at 17:10 is just from being sharpened a lot. I've got a few old knives about like that. I could be wrong, of course.

I know what you're saying, but from handling it, I know that the bevel was consistent the length of the blade so I think it's safe to say that was it's original design. My hunch is that the D guard in the beginning and this knife were by the same maker.
