I'm guessing you guys aren't old enough to remember Sharapova saying she doesn't want friends on tour. Just about every player at the time described her as cold and unfriendly. Her being decent at the net is likely her not wanting to show her opponent the loss affects her. She probably goes home, pop a few meldoniums and break a few things. Radwanska is the opposite of Sharapova. The tennis media portrays her as one of the nicest players on tour. Yet, she is frequently at odds with other players behind the scenes. Having so much personal conflicts is not indicative of a nice person.
@samj8817

“Rushed” handshakes don’t really make a player rude or unfriendly when losing a tough 3 setter (Like Radwanska! Fan favourite for years). The rude ones are those who don’t shake hands or make rude comments. Where is Siegemund on this list and how has no one else mentioned her!
@tiz75
@tiz75 3 жыл бұрын
How often don't they shake hands? It would have taken ages to find 10 players who repeatedly did not shake hands with the opponent. Surely not even looking someone in the face while you are shaking hands is not being polite or a gracious looser.

@clintotitot
@clintotitot 2 жыл бұрын
Excellent point! Rushed handshakes don't equate to being 'unfriendly'. It's what players normally do when they lose. Rude ones are those who don't shake hands - precisely! I remember former World No. 7 Patty Schnyder once refused the traditional handshake with former World No. 2 & 1994 Wimbledon Champion Conchita Martinez. 😶

Strycova is mad and eccentric but not deliberately rude to opponents. She has no beef with anybody. She jokes about her 'grumpy face' on social media but she is anything but that away from the court., I guess people can read her the wrong way. She is one of the funniest personalities and doesn't take herself seriously at all. I can see why people might read her wrong though, I used to.

@Nathan Marc Juste She is fine with Venus. One video from years back and she had the hump with the umpire not Venus. If you watch the video she shakes venus hand and stops to let Venus go to umpire first then Venus just gasses off. They've played each other since with no issue. She has said so many times in the press how much respect she has for both Williams sisters. Yet people judge on this one incident. The other clip of her here is nonsense don't even know why it is added. She is popular with players on tour because she is unique and makes people laugh. I used to think the same about her because of that one incident then got to know more about her and realised she is very friendly. She is feisty and screems at herself on court, but is not unfriendly infact the complete opposite.

Unhappy at losing a match is not the same as "unfriendly". Radwanska has a reputation for being very friendly, Sharapova definitely does not, but Sharapova usually gives the better handshake.
@dianenorman3209
@dianenorman3209 3 жыл бұрын
Sharapova not unfriendly, yeah right. She doesn't even say Hello back to other players when they're walking past each. I can understand not wanting to be best friends with people on the tour but you can at least say Hi back to people when they say hello to you. Ridiculous. That's just common courtesy and decency.

@@dianenorman3209 That was exactly my point. To rearrange my sentence, I said Sharapova definitely does not (have) a reputation for being very friendly. She even said she did not want to make friends with other WTA players.

Most of them are normal handshakes, what expression do you exepect from those who lose their matches? A big smile? Hug their opponent to thank them?
@sofiadaryaie6155

What do you expect from these players? Every clip you are showing them in is after a loss, most of them in tight or important matches. With a few exceptions they all do their obligatory handshake and move on respectfully. This doesn’t make them rude or unfriendly.

Wtf? What is this?? I understand the other compilation, but this is not a thing. You are confusing being friendly with being competitive. Sharapova was one of the players that carried herself with grace. That does not mean she will be among those that goes around hugging the opponent. But she was not in the other end either with those who are unsportsmanlike and using bad language. She was a competitive player, who carried herself very well on court. She has millions of fans for a reason. But yeah, she kept herself with her fellow countrymen for the most part and saw foreigners as competitors...

None of these are that horrible. Check out McEnroe and Connors handshakes from the 80s. All the men gave brief handshakes back then...some people just don't like losing. To tell you the truth, the celebrating that everyone does when they win would have been considered really bad sportsmanship back in the day....all the yelling, fist-pumping, screaming, lying on your back, jumping up and down, etc. Back then, it was considered the responsibility of the winner to just jog to the net quietly and then find something to congratulate the opponent about, knowing he/she was disappointed. You weren't supposed to rub it in....

Net was fine. Disrespect was mocking Ana getting her blood pressure checked at the beginning of the 3rd set. Maria acted put off by many taking medical timeouts, yet people had to constantly wait for her slow play/ritual. I always had to record matches she was in b/c a 2 hour match would become 2:45 b/c of her time between points.
