Jankovic is a good match against Kvitova. Jelena has a particular strength that Petra would find tough to deal with - she redirects the ball and reflects pace with her backhand better than pretty much any other WTA player, even at this late stage of her career. Watching this video, you see Jelena use all of Petra’s pace on her backhand side time and time again, especially in sets 2 and 3, and it takes the impact of Petra’s huge strength in her forehand cross court.

this is exactly it. Jankovic's ability directly counters Kvitova's. The more pace you give Jankovic the better. whereas in the next round Aga won, because Aga's balls usually have no pace so Jankovic can't redirect.

Imo this is one of the upset for womens's tennis in last decade. Kvitova was defending champion back then, she just won remier mandatory title as well prior Wimbledon. So she was coming to Wimbledon in a good condition.

True in some ways. I think everyone was hoping for a Serena Kvitova showdown (I love their 2012 match here). Jankovic worst surface is grass and she takes out the defending champ and grass dutchess?

ak170492 kvitova’s strokes were erratic in the second and third set, but that’s what JJ does to you. She’s a grinder who absorbs and redirects the ball insanely well (as well as bring able to produce a lot of power off of her backhand). Miss her, she just didn’t have what it took to win a slam I guess.

Funny that Jankovic isn't the best grass court player, yet has managed to defeat Venus and Petra at Wimbledon. She's just so solid, and due to the fact she's sometimes late on the grass, she hits the shot behind her opponent, which is very effective (unintentionally).

This was a big upset at the time. I just knew we were going to get Kvitova and Serena Final.

Man, I miss jankovic sooooooo much. She always gave Serena and venus a challenge, deserved a slam more than ivanovic imo. Don't come at me, it's just my opinion. Thanks for the upload.

She was a grinder who could give u a hard time but lacked an extra gear to really stand out

Well unfortunately Mary, grand slams aren’t a given...you got to earn them and Ivanovic did so. Jankovic was too passive. Merely retrieving a million and one balls just isn’t enough!!!
