He is being honest. Shoaib was a tough competition to Rahul and Sachin. I saw Sachin playing against Shoaib Akhtar and I wanted him to perform against him but felt him uncomfortable, uneasy, distracted or nervous. Also this journalist (Asutosh) is being a bit stupid by constantly insisting/persuading him to change his views. People can have their views, no matter right or wrong. Man that was so cringeworthy listening to that interviewer. What Shohaib said is his view, I don’t see why people getting so angry about it and wanting him to apologise. Secondly I don’t see the big deal. Listen every batsmen in the world when the bowler is bowling at 90mph they are concerned/worried/scared let alone someone bowling around 95mph. No one likes it. With regards to Sachin - when I judge some of these batsmen from the subcontinent I look at their average in Australia, England, NZ etc. Sachin was awesome there is no doubt. Plus you see a lot of the Indian batsmen at the moment they struggle against the short ball on bouncy tracks. Sachin didn’t. Then the issue around Sunil Gavaskar. I never saw him play but you look at his record. He averaged something like 70 in West Indies. Imagine playing against 4 bowlers all bowling around 90mph+ and having that kind of an average. He must have been some thing special. Plus no helmet. That’s nuts. If Gavaskar was India’s best ever then Sachin is most likely India’s second best ever to me.
