Ashwatthama is one of the 7 Immortals, one of the most powerful warriors in Mahabharata. He was born with a gem embedded in his forehead (think of Vision!). So in a nutshell, Ashwatthama's father Dronacharya was virtually impossible to beat. Krishna kind of "deceived" him to his death, by convincing him that his son Ashwatthama was killed in battle, because of which he went in shock and grief and could be killed... So Ashwatthama didn't really like that and well let's just say didn't take it very lightly as in he basically tried to wipe out every single Pandava (Krishna was on the side of Pandavas) to the extent that he attacked an unborn child... Krishna intervened and cursed him, Ashwatthama had to surrender the gem on his forehead and live with a gaping wound that would never heal. Well technically Immortals in Hinduism are not really immortals, time is circular here and so these immortals will also die when this cycle of time "Yuga" ends, but yes that's practically a very long time....

This is a unique thing about this culture, Immortality is deemed curse over here and the WORST form of punishment a mortal can get. Ashwatthama did the unthinkable thing at the time, He killed Pandava's sons in sleep...After the war was over just because he couldn't make peace with the outcome...and even laid hands upon a new born and shot him with Brahmastra, He simply crossed all boundaries and for the first time he was given the most harshest punishment of immortality and made to wander the earth in his wretched state but there is no true immortality and he too shall be over one day. But he will suffer each and every moment of his life.

This series is made by two of India's best directors of current generation. You're gonna thoroughly enjoy this series , this series is hands down one of the best series ever made in the previous decade from any part of the world.

Just for some context here, Ashwatthama was a great warrior who fought with valor and pride but when his father and best friend were killed in a war, he wanted revenge. So he assassinated the children of the 5 brothers called pandavas who won the war, mistaking their children for them. Once, he got caught by the 5 brothers, krishna ( basically the most important hindu god in another form) told them that he was the son of their teacher and that killing him is a sin but not punishing him is a greater sin so they removed the gem on his forehead which was a blessing that he was born with that gave him eternal youth and limitless stamina. Once that was gone, his body kept degrading and krishna cursed him to become immortal in that state. ( This is not the exact story, just a shortened version of it )

There's some mythology references in this series. As the name of the episode itself is Ashwatthama, which was a character in Mahabharata. It's not easy to understand to those references. Better u stay out of it and enjoy storyline, screenplay, cinematography, and performances

I remember back in 2018-19 when I used to watch this series while tripping on weed . It was a different experience . I had forgotten most of the details and now that I am all sobered up I am rewatching the whole thing again .
