Really appreciate it that you’re not so focussed on LTC style efficiency runs, but are factoring some of those strategies. I just find a lot of fire emblem tier lists end up being like the only good units in sacred stones are Seth and units that can carry around Seth and warp or Seth. It’s just a specific play style that doesn’t consider more casual runs, where you are still trying to see good combat, but with less perfect calculation in your strategy.

Knoll is so funny, this man would be broken if unchanged in literally any other game but the fact the games so easy actually works to his detriment since his summon skills don’t even help much outside of challenge runs

I've heard a lot of people say fe11 Marth is the worst lord in the series, and I just don't really know why. obviously he's a footlocked thief dude but he still feels a lot more competent as a lord than Lyn for example. fe11s rapier is probably the best rapier in the series imo. btw, Amelia already had a lower growth total than Seth in the japanese version, but then in the localization they increased Seth growths and decreased Amelia's even more the localization changes are wild, some make sense but then they screwed over the trainees, their special classes caps also got super nerfed for some reason

I recall Lute being quite harshly judged in tier lists or rating topics around a decade ago(the same era where Franz got glowing mini seth reviews). Since Franz is getting a much more skeptical judgement now looking at his bases, what caused units like Lute get an overreaction as a crappy unit? After the 20/20 analysis era things did take a sharp turn to high efficiency, but was it taken too far? Her con is +3 going to Mage Knight, so she's at Erk level like that using Thunder without speed loss at least which isn't a terribly big drop from Elfire considering her high magic will have kicked in.

I actually find Vanessa incredibly difficult to train early game. On her join map she faces weapon triangle disadvantage from every single enemy, except the lone archer, which is dangerous for her to fight anyway, because she doesn't one-round it so you have to set it up for her, otherwise she dies to effectiveness. In chapter 3, there are three non-axe enemies, one of whom is a thief she can easily dispatch over the wall with her javelin, but then faces retaliation from the archer on the other side of the wall, and then a lone mercenary in the throne room. Monster map is monster map, but I'm usually so ross-pilled at that point I use it as an opportunity to train him. Chapter 5 is working against Vanessa in like, every single way: lots of axe enemies, lots of archers, timed objectives that her high movement and flight is uniquely suited for over fighting in combat, Joshua taking up the center of the map that you want to avoid until you recruit him, and a boss with high defense and 1-2 range that she can scarcely damage. Chapter 6 is fog of war with a decent mix of weapon types, and with her low bulk and low defense, even those soldiers can take a sizeable chunk out of her HP. I usually send her down to the village if I bother to get it (I usually play Lizard's rebalance hack that replaces the antitoxin with a restore staff so it's actually worth getting) and then have her hide in the trees for the rest of the map while Seth goes on a killing spree to find the boss, because she usually isn't strong enough to handle the cav reinforcements. And then in Chapter 7, her main utility is rescue-dropping, and baiting out the mage with a pure water so Colm can safely steal the Energy Ring. There are archers near the castle that she has to avoid, an archer and some axe bros in the lower right corner that she'll struggle with, and a ballista that covers a majority of the right side of the map, so she's not doing much combat in this chapter either. And then in Chapter 8, by that point, she's usually so far behind that I just bench her in favor of my stronger combat units. I'll sometimes still deploy her in Chapter 9 if I have the slots open, but usually I prefer to field Franz, Kyle, and Forde, because they have similarly high movement, but better combat, especially against the archers near the top. I usually have Pirate Ross at this point and he's competent enough to take on the pirates heading for the Rapier village, and then I'll send Seth and my cavs forward to save the Dracoshield village. But it's at this point that I usually bench Vanessa in favor of Tana, who just has higher bases and is, at that point, usually closer to promotion. I did not realize I had this much to say about Vanessa lol

I think Orson being on the list is kind of a meme, there’s no way you can say that he’s more valuable than units you get to keep the whole game. He can’t be invested in and he contributes nothing to the latter half of the game. You made a point to say availability was important, he’s not available enough to justify his one chapter usage. I think him being anywhere but last is kind of joke, unless you’re giving a lot of stock into his weapons you can take from him, I guess that’s something but idk

My Amelia actually had slightly better stats than my benched Seth on the final chapter after I fed her every stat booster therefore she's unquestionably better and should be SSS tier

Omg things have changed a bit huh? 😮 I remember when it used to be that Franz was considered Seth jr, but now it’s Kyle… and Marisa/Neimi/Gilliam below Ewan and Amelia also took me by surprise. I think the only ones who’ve remained in their place are Seth, Tethys, and Vanessa.

I'm going through Sacred Stones using only bad units based off this tier list. I'll let you know if phantoms can drop their weapons when I get to that point.

30% def and res growths on eirika are good actually by the game's standards, higher than units like kyle and cormag and only slightly below gerik (30% res in particular is very high for a physical unit, equal to mr growths man himself seth) that doesn't mean she's bulky it just means the reason why she's frail is her atrocious base, not her growths smh also idk what you're talking about with eirika great lord having bad caps it has 24 strength 30 speed and 25 res it's like, the best mounted unit in terms of caps (besides great knight but that has 6 move yuck) and also it's sacred stones caps DO NOT matter unless you're in creature campaign

Tbf, Lute can't deal with the monsters alone so it's not just 1 Vanessa turn (I know it was a bit of grasping at straws to separate her from Artur but it was funny)

i havent used Natasha so i cant say how much of a difference it makes, but it should be noted that Valkyrie and unpromoted Thief have a thing where they get exp faster? also relevant for L'Arachel i guess, but she, uh, she, errr... yeahhhh...

Innes should be higher because he’s the only unit who can wield Nidhogg. This makes him really strong in the endgame obviously. I’d move him up to C.

I have NEVER had a good Franz. He's consistently the worst cavalier in the game for me, even worse than Forde. Heck even Amelia usually outperforms him. From 5 out of 6 playthroughs my Franz never had any stat higher than 8~9 at lvl 10, and that one time where he was "good" was playthrough where I deliberately grinded everyone to lvl 20 in the Tower. Nice list by the way and it's pretty great for newer players but ever since Mekkah did Lunatic mode and released the Route split patch I can never go back playing the unpatched (normal non lunatic version) game again. It feels so much better and logical playing both routes of the game, and it opens so much possibilities when choosing which units are going with Ephraim and which ones with Eirika. It also pretty much negates the need to go to the Tower if you want to use some of the "less useful" members and actually makes some of them useful in the long term.

I wasn’t aware POR Ike and Hector were bad lords. I haven’t played much of any of the non-localized games, but I always felt like both of them were solid. Axes are bad in some of the older games I guess, but I never felt like that really effected Hector from being a Chad. Ike, to me at least, felt like Hector with a sword - so naturally I was a big fan. Maybe I just got stat blessed in non-fixed growth modes? I didn’t really take note of that stuff when I played way back when. Planning on playing FE7 again for old times sake, I guess I’ll see if I feel differently

Can't really say I disagree with anything on this list overall. I would like to see how an Epharim list shakes up, but I feel like I personally know this game well enough to know the major changes between the two routes. Duessell and Ephriam going up a lot, Saleh and Innes dropping a tier more than likely, Knoll not really moving, Cormag might move around a little for his earlier join time and how good he can be on phantom ship, but he loses those hard mode stats from Erika route. As far as other changes, you could probably put Rennac in tower squad and no one would know the difference. He can pick locks without a pick in the 3 chapters left with chests, and you're probably skipping the chests in at least 1 of them. I could see an arguement for Franz over Kyle, the only other gripe I have is Syrene and Dozla over Knoll. I'm not going to go into the summoner tangent, but even as a druid, Knoll can provide decent staff utility even as a secondary staffer, but just because another staffer might outclass him doesn't make him bad, that's why there's a tier for outclassed but fine. He's usable when you get him, just outclassed by probably all other mages that aren't Ewan. I'd put him above Orson, and leave him there. Orson is best for 1 chapter, Knoll is bare minimum serviceable for 3 at least. That's more than Syrene and I'd argue more useful than Dozla. You could even slot him in behind Ross and I'd feel better about that. Edit: last change I would make is moving both Moulder and Natasha down 1 tier. Just because other people become better staff bots later on and can provide more utility than they can before they become staffers and still perform well after, where Moulder is probably never seeing combat unless it's monsters and Natasha should never see it at all. Moulder shouldn't move down very far, but down to top of the next tier since he's bottom of his current tier. And Natasha just above Joshua

I loved this tierlist And the first thing that I agreed a lot is that while Arthur is prob technically better than Lute, they are way way way closer than most people say they are (I've seen people putting her on mid bottom C while Arthur on bottom A), and I like to compare those earlier fe8 chapters to mini lyn mode, so training chapters, which means that I weigh availability more than you do for those chapters, enough that I would put kyle much lower, like top of B or very bottom of A Also one less reason to argue that Amalia better than neimi and gilliam is the speedwing, which is def more worth than them, I know that using their otems as reason to rate them higher is polemic but like, it is not like you are gonna use o her anyway lol and it is as if she gave enough filler combat to feed 2 levels of speed to a character I would put Gerrik over Natasha at least personally, because she can contribute at all only if you want to invest a lot, otherwise she will be pretty irrelevant, which is kinda true for most staffers, but moulder obv requires much less and even saleh or lute can do that job somewhat, while gerrik offers somewhat uniquely good combat and solo a single front of a decent amount of chapters and with or without investment, he will contribute much more than natasha on average. A dancer dancing an unit to reach a point so they can attack the first time in their turn is a situation of "1 attack is infinitely bigger than 0", can ai describe how useful is that? I will say that you saying Duessel being ranked at C was very weird, made my mind have a revelation: I always found so weird how most lists ranked duessel so high, which is to me kinda crazy, only now I shamefully noticed they ranked ephraim mode while I only played eirika mode

Like, if we look at all the stealables on Eirika's route... ch. 9 amelia speedwings 4 spd ch. 10 red gem-13~16 spd ch. 10 talisman 9~12 spd ch. 11 door keys 4~7 spd ch. 13 red gem 4~8 spd ch. 13 body ring 6~9 speed ...The only thing that his base speed can't steal from is the red gem in chapter 10. Though getting one speed level to make stealing the Talisman more reliable probably wouldn't hurt (random enemy growth moment) He does stop being able to steal stuff uninvested around ch. 17, but by then you should have just replaced him with Rennac so w/e

Saying POR Ike and Hector are some of the worst lords is crazy. I'm not gonna pretend they're top tier or anything, but they're easily better than Roy and Lyn. They're definitely better than Eirika as well. The only reason Eliwood would be better is because he gets a horse. You could argue them being better than Micaiah as well. That's like half the pre Awakening Lords!
