I am all about angles. It has taken me 2 years to learn what you have just taught in 20 mins. People go hunting with the intention of sitting for extended periods but get tired or restless, with this set up you really can stay comfortable for a long sit. Thanks for taking the time to educate.

I have been bowhunting since 1985. I will be 70 next month. This is my first year to saddle hunt. Your videos have been extremely helpful. I will watch this one numerous times. Your teaching style, my friend, embraces the Chinese proverb: "Tell me and I will forget, . . . , involve me and I will learn." At 71 years of age entering my first season of SH, I have saturated my brain with a wide spectrum of videos. The timing of finding this video makes it the most valuable lesson that I was missing. I’ve learned from my limited practice that regardless of what I’ve learned about ascending/descending, ropes & knots, etc., it all becomes secondary to enjoying SH if you are not comfortable in your saddle. This demonstration is truly the missing piece for me. When they create " Saddle-Hunting Teacher of the Season," you have my vote. 🤗 I, as with the rest of your followers here, am seriously grateful for all of your videos.

I whole heartedly agree with you here. However, I think your quote was from Benjamin Franklin, "“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” Maybe he stole it from the Chinese LOL.

Coming from a engineers point of view, the higher the girth the less pull toward the tree you'll have, decreasing the stress on your legs or knees. You'll can always readjust your bridge so you won't have the upper pull.

I can confirm that the Mission platform has an angle adjustment and agree that a slight to moderate downward angle is ideal (imo). Also, the Cruzr saddles can also adjust along the bridge loops so the pressure moves to different points along your hips, back and legs. It is actually more adjustable than the Phantom because it uses AmSteel and prussic knots. Great information!

Thanks Jack. I found shooting from a saddle that with the wrong tether angle that it makes it very difficult @ the beginning of the draw cycle. U r right about the lean & the tether angle. I like my tether a little lower & I really like to lean back. I have always shot better & with my bow from a tree where u r bending from the waist. I'm thin & shooting on the ground with a high center of gravity makes me less steady. I'm not talking holding steady but from step 1 to step 5 of my progression. I've always used a tether attached to a waist belt cuz body harnesses give me pain. The belt goes halfway between my fanny pack & my armpits. However with the saddle it is much easier to sit relaxed for a longer time. Not to mention not having to lug around all that metal. Is your 2nd bridge & tether an Oplux tactical 1. I went that way & I wouldn't use anything else. There r specially made prusiks for the Oplux & I recommend those as well.

Nate, that was probably the best explanation video, covering in-depth and educational (the teacher in you dropping the acute/obtuse terms) saddle positioning. You definitely gave me some things to think about and try. I too, change positions every once in awhile. Although I am a leaner mostly, I do like positioning my feet on the platform sideways to the tree and wedge my ankle/shin as my body swings to the side of the tree. BTW, are you still doing the podcast?

Thanks for such a detailed and informative video to breakdown all of the little adjustments that can be made and how they affect the comfort. I believe most of the people who try saddle hunting then quit do so because they haven’t taken the time in the stand to try these little suttle changes. It’s amazing how much a 2” adjustment here or there makes.

Thanks for the great comfort tips. I currently don't have a tree saddle or even a climbing tree stand, but I really want one for certain situations to get above the head height brush that the bruiser bucks I saw love to get into and bed, etc... I have been hunting from the ground for a while, but really got out more than I ever did and saw many deer including missing 3 does between 20-35 yards (first animals that I have ever drawn and released an arrow on), a really nice tall 8-10 point that came within 10 yards of me while on the ground, but I didn't draw since he never looked down or away. Plus other opportunities that I didn't draw on. But I believe that a tree saddle would provide better opportunities in certain situations and areas. I just don't have the $350-$550 sitting around for a really nice Tethrd system yet, especially with me getting married in August. Have you done a how to practice shooting all the shots out of a saddle video yet?

Curious. I’m of a slim build and much prefer my tether to be as high as I can get it. Practically no hip pinch, far more ability to swing all the way around the tree and with the tethers angle being closer to parallel with the tree while sitting, it’s easier on the leg muscles as it mimics a sitting position in contrast to a “push off” position which requires much more muscle tension. Different strokes...
