One of the smallest and most affordable espresso machine that Saeco makes, the Poemia is a great way to get into brewing espresso at home! In this video Gail goes over all the features and brews up a shot!

I own this machine for something over two years now, still works like a charm. I read somewhere that if you take the pressurizer out of the porta filter, it gives you more control over your brew, however makes for a more challenging cup of coffee. I did so a while ago, coffee is better than ever although it took some time to get the grind and tempering just right. I encourage everyone to try it, if you manage to not break anything (I didnt, lol), you can always put the pressurizer back again.

I own this machine (bought from SCG, natch), and wanted to throw in my two cents. First, even though this doesn't come up in the video, a lot of times they'll talk about the grounds coming out of the portafilter as a complete sloppy mess. This hasn't been my experience - dosing at 18g and a medium-firm tamp, the grounds are completely dry every time. I even manage to hit the 20-30 second pull time window, just something to keep in mind. Second, you completely can control the amount of foam you get out of the machine. Just like with a "big-boy" steam wand, I'll keep the tip of the panarello just under the surface of the milk until it gets to about 80 degrees or so on the thermometer, or when the milk stops screeching. Then, and she even mentioned this in the video, I'll make sure to move the steaming pitcher up to cover that little hole on the top of the steam wand. Then you don't get more foam than you want! For bonus points, get a good circulation going in your milk; instead of a horizontal spin, go for a vertical one, where the steam moves all of the milk around in the pitcher and incorporates nicely. It takes a bit of technique (and a lot of practice) but you can eventually get something approximating latte art quality foam out of this thing. I've been very happy with mine. I have a Baratza Encore to go with it, though if you want to upgrade to a non-pressurized portafilter in the future you might want to go up to the Precisio, which gives you much finer control over the level of grind and thus final pull time.

Really helpful video. I have one myself and have been playing around with it recently. Why would you say that the steamed milk isn't latte art quality? As long as you heat the milk appropriately and have microfoam, doesn't the rest depend on the person pouring? What's missing from this machine that doesn't allow it to make latte art milk? Thanks

Picked one for myself. What is the usual dosage one would use on this kind of portafilter? I'm going with 16g at the moment.

I've got a question. The double and the single filter does not fit perfectly inside the portafilter, so that it stands few millimeters above the edge: is there a way to clean the filter from coffee without having to wait for it to cool down so that it can be extracted from the portafilter and then cleaned? If I try to empty the filter while it sits in the portafilter, it will eventually come off. Thank you!

Very nice review, I loved the tip about artificially cooling down the machine to brew your coffee, I always wait for it to cool down and it takes ages and the milk cools down aswell! Thanks a lot, I'll probably be buying this machine to substitute my old Viva Gaggia! :) Take care

I own a Peomia but am here after watching your temperature surfing video. I ran a few temperature tests on my machine and noticed that when the brew light is on the water coming out of the group head is only about 166 F. After steaming, I checked the water temp once again and it's only 177-179 F. Do you know of any reasoning for this or is it just a cheap machine? Steam also seams to be weak and lasts for only a short amount of time. I'm not even sure how I've been making drinks with this thing... haha

For folks with this machine, does your steam wand dribble tiny bits of water even with the steam knob turned as tight as you can? Mine seems to do that more often now.
@dan27052
@dan27052 8 жыл бұрын
+Matt Trix yes, mine does, there is a trick to it though, let it run till it gets the air bubbles out of it, (it might take up to 30 seconds or so, but it will clear up. after that, if you keep the wand about 1/4" under the top of the milk, and keep the mug at about a 15 degree tilt, you will the thickest micro bubble of foam of all time. (there is a trick to the foam though, i have barista friends that cant make it happen near as well as i can) so give it alittle practice. I make my own caramel and i will put my caramel latte up against any machine, any day. Its a great little coffee machine, it just takes a little time to get it right!

Do you recomend a grinder for this machine?
@SeattleCoffeeGear
@SeattleCoffeeGear 8 жыл бұрын
+belichan17 Something like this Baratza Encore would work well with this machine (www.seattlecoffeegear.com/baratza-encore-grinder). But if you think you might want to upgrade your espresso machine in the future, to a machine without a pressurized basket, it may be worth the extra investment in a grinder like the Breville Smart Grinder Pro so that you have the ability to upgrade in the future. I really like what the poemia has to offer, but I did have one question, i'm looking at the Gaggia classic, which i can get (refurb) for around the same price as aroma -- why do you not have any Gaggia products? the classic has everything i'd like except the panarello -- but it seems that it can be upgraded quite easily with the silvia steam arm. and its a lot less pricey than the silvia. for the same price of the silvia i can get the Gaggia Classic AND a Preciso, and still have $ left over to upgrade the wand?
@SeattleCoffeeGear

+Munky332 The Poemia is a great machine for the price. We also have refurbished Poemia's available from time to time: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/saeco-poemia-espresso-machine-certified-refurbished To answer your question, we carried both Saeco and Gaggia a while back. But ran into some warranty support issues with Gaggia, and so we decided to focus on Saeco. As you can tell the machines are very similar. Let us know if you have any other questions!

You need to ensure the reservoir is clicked all the way down. There's a line painted on the inside of the machine indicating the level the reservoir needs to be below.

Gaggia Viva Chic is simpler than Poemia...to spell and New...why Not a Review? To improve the taste use the mechanism and Feature of the portafilter. Hold IT tonthe right Limit for 6...8 Second or untill First Drops come Out of the portafilter. Than Release it. This Gaggia-Saeco portafilters do not have a Pinhole and a Ventile instead. Same with the Grangaggia and the Carezza, while the Carezza has a Thermoblock.
