In part 2 of this series, we take the SimWorks Studios Zenith CH701, on safari around their Okavango Delta addon for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS).
In today's flight, we will be taking an aerial tour of the local area around Camp Xigera; helping a VIP client get some decent photos of the local wildlife, from the air.

Alas, I think you might be right haha! I’m sure MSFS has been a god-send for a lot of people over the last 18 months. It’s also a lot less inconvenient, not to mention cheaper, than travelling to some of these places ; ) Glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers Squirel, all the best : )

Thanks very much again Michael! Yeah, it’s probably not comparable with works of Tolkien haha, but I figure a little story adds a bit of interest every now and then. The Okavango is the perfect place to go on an adventure as well! Cheer! : )

GREAT airport for that flight. Interesting that once you start the engine, the prop is invisible throughout the flight. That's a nice little plane for cruising and looking for wildlife! !! !!! As always, I like the external camera shots throughout the flight.

Cheers Mark, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the prop animation is a little odd perhaps, it is on most MSFS aircraft to be fair. Then again, props aren’t nearly as visually noticeable in reality, as they tend to be in the sim (I find). I actually find the spinner to look more odd - it looks to be moving far too slowly - but again this seems to be a common MSFS issue. Otherwise though, it is indeed a nice option for low and slow / enjoying the scenery : ) All the best!

I'm still half way in but I'm loving the video. SimWorks Studios just has some of the best addons out there. Can't wait to see what they will do with the Kodiak. The Okavango will also be getting a free update! Did you use FSrecorder, another add-on or just the MSFS default record for your video? Best, Travolt

Hi Travolt! Glad you enjoyed the video. SimWorks do indeed make some great addons, I particularly like the Okavango scenery, as I think it’s quite a creative idea. I’ll actually have a video up on the Kodiak tomorrow morning - overall I was incredibly impressed, it’s a really nice aircraft! That’s awesome news on the Okavango update. I’m planning on at least one more video with it, it will be nice to have a bit more to explore. I used FSRecorder for the video. It’s still my go-to for the time being. Actually haven’t tried the new default recorder yet haha, I’m comfortable with FSRecorder and it has all the functionality I need (only problem, is sometimes I forget to hit record ha!). Great video! I quite enjoy the Zenith it's a really nice plane and can get in and out of almost any place as you demonstrated with that landing.

Thanks very much Megadyptes! Yeah, I’m a fan of the Zenith as well. Initially it was so-so and it took SimWorks Studios quite a long time to update it, but they seem to be on top of their game with updates now and yeah, overall it’s a fun and capable little machine. It can certainly get in and out of some tight spaces, though I feel like it’s on a bit of a knife-edge at low speed - quite hard to get a smooth landing if you aren’t well above stall speed (maybe that’s just me though haha). Lovely stuff - always enjoy your "story" vids. Flying a little rotax-powered kite is where MSFS shines.

Hi RM, Yeah, it's a really nice piece of work from SWS and a great idea! I was hoping we might see more sceneries a bit like this from other developers, but that doesn't really seem to have come to fruition so far. . . Definitely a fun area to go and explore anyway! All the best : )

I'm sure SWS will be happy that my vid also put you onto their scenery ; ) The Okavango addon is certainly a nice little addition to the sim overall (it's a shame that there aren't more products like it) - it's enjoyable to head off exploring etc. I hope you had some fun! Yeah, sometimes this sim can look pretty convincing can’t it! I love the SWS Okavango addon as well, really gives you that feeling of exploration, whilst flying around a beautiful part of the world. Cheers! : )

Well done! I love the mix of cinematic and informative in your videos. The Okavango was one of the first mods I bought. It's so interesting to fly over. I believe SWS is working on an update with more airports. I wish someone would do a Ngorongoro Crater scenery. Meanwhile, the CH701 is a fun beast to fly. The flaps are tricky. Did you try out the recently released amphibian update?

Thanks very much William, glad you enjoyed the video : ) Someone else just mentioned the update - I’m looking forward to it! I already have at least one other video planned within the scenery. I haven’t tried the amphibian version just yet, I do intend to at some point though. Wow, cool landing on the shore next to the camp! I bought the Okavango Delta on the Black Friday sale a few days, have only done one flight above it yet. But it's really interesting, nice attention to detail, and something totally different. Would love to see more of this kind of add-on, instead of the hundreds of mediocre regional airports the we find in the Marketplace.

Thanks very much Volker! It is indeed an interesting, nice little area to fly around in for sure. Low and slow is the way to go haha. I agree that we need to see more sceneries like this in MSFS - the sim is perfect for exploration and these sorts of sceneries really ramp up that whole experience. Enjoy! : )

Can you make a comparison with the new NX Cub? Both seems to be a great sight-seeing plane.

Hi Griffin, I don’t really have much time in the NX Cub yet, so I can’t really compare the two currently I’m afraid. I probably won’t look to make a direct comparison video, but I’m sure we’ll fly the NX Cub on the channel at some point. I think the Zenith has the edge in terms of visibility and I prefer the steam gauges, but overall they are both nice options for sightseeing / STOL (and of course the NX Cub is free). All the best! : )

BTS Question: Are you live in your videos or is your commentary done in post? Trying to find the best way to do it in my videos.

Hi James, For the vast majority of my videos, I tend to commentate as I go. I’ve tried both methods, but generally find it easier / less work to commentate live for most types of vids. The only downside to commentating live, is if you do mess up a string of speech, it tends to make the clip somewhat unusable (which can mean having to shoot more “takes” of the same piece of video). I still haven’t tried the Google maps mod actually. . . The visual results certainly look impressive, but I’ve been hearing of mixed results when it comes to sim stability etc. Any issues on your end? Cheers! : )
