First held in 1953 to honour Queen Elisabeth II, Safari Rally Kenya quickly became known as the 'world's toughest rally'. As a Kenyan...I get goose bumps watching this. I have amazing memories of what this Rally meant to Kenyans and WRC. Basically, you could not say you raced unless you make it through safari rally. Was the tour de France of car racing.

They did those interviews if you remember. Those group B guys were getting psychological trauma from some of the stuff they were seeing. The balance is being safe with the least amount of regulation possible. But boy when you have mechanics talking about finding fingers in cars, shit would fuck with you.

I remember as a kid watching the likes of Ian Duncan, Patrick Njiru n Carl "flash" Tundo race at delamere ranch... maze, since then av been a big fan of racing of any kind, also delamere did dirt biking...it was real fun

I get a nolstagic feeling watching this, I remember waiting by the roadside to catch a glimpse of the rally cars while I was growing up in Kenya. I still have a dream of getting into the rally and racing one-day. I hope it comes true in the near future.

Why should they take part in something that doesn't help sell cars. We need rules that will have more production based cars like Subaru Mitsubishi. If you don't sell a awd high horsepower version of the car you compete with your not in. And I don't mean 200 cars more like 5000 minimum.

This was a really cool video I’d never saw anything about this rally until now it’d be really fun to play this in dirt and the Mitsubishi thing was a good reminder of how much Mitsubishi used to be motivated to win unlike now where they only make boring cars. Nevertheless this is a really special rally to some (I can tell by the comments) and I’d love to see a modern 2020 running of it

My man, he won by 52 minutes, meaning the next racer finished 52 minutes after he did, not 4000 kms in 52 minutes, that'd be physically impossible

even a plane cruising at maximum speed will take at least five hours to cover that distance. It is impossible to do that... these events take several hours with breaks even

I sure wish we had the AWD Focus ZX3 here in the USA back in 2002, and possibly the Cosworth. Would have put the Focus on a whole other platform w the Mitzus and Subies. RIP Colin McRae.

Snorkel, basically intake for the car but higher so it doesn't die out when car is submerge onto water as long as it the doesn't go to the snorkel

A snorkel, incase the grille gets under water level, the snorkel will provide enough air to keep the engine running.

TOYOTA LandCruiser is the King of Dakar... more than 20 Class wins in the REAL DAKAR challenge... T2 Class... Mitsubishi won a lot of PROTOTYPE championships, LANDCRUISER won almost 20 times in PRODUCTION vehicles category... You can go and buy a DAKAR winner at your nearest TOYOTA dealer... but you can`t buy a T1 prototype for any money!!!.
