I have used vinegar and salt from the start, never knew about tartaric acid. I agree the vinegar smells terrible l for a good week so I am going to give the tartaric acid a go. Thanks for the great idea

For how long do you leave the metal in the pickle solution? 10 minutes?

Does this pickle pot need a well vented area or is it ok to just have around my work area with no serious ventilation or exhaust, It's just a normal room with an ac unit, etc. I was trying to find something safe, that I can leave on and not worry about breathing in fumes.
