HI Overlaning4 fun, I've already used button 1 for 30AMP for my Baja Design 8 XL Light Bar, I've also used the 15AMP the Baja Design XL Ditch Lights. Question is I want to add 3 new Amber Baja Design XL lights to the from Bumper but 10 AMPs is not enough what do I do min this case?
@Overlanding4Fun
@Overlanding4Fun Жыл бұрын
@@netbypass I am not finding the amber XL light on BD website, but assuming the ambers have the same electrical specs as the white lights, they appear to draw 2 amps each on 13.8 VDC. With 3 of them you current draw would be 6 amps and that should be OK on a 10 amp circuit.

Great video Tim. It's nice to see someone time to breakdown this information instead of just slapping lights on.

Thank you so much for this. The two off road lights I purchased take 320 watts (!!) and so my only option is the 30 amp aux switch which is borderline according to the 80% rule if based upon 13 volts. Hopefully won’t burn up my new black diamond.

As long as you have properly sized wiring and rated fuse for the load, you should be OK. Thanks for watching.

Great video but I have a question on the ditch lights from rough country it came with a relay should I use it with the Aux. switch?
@Overlanding4Fun

The Aux switches circuits, that are integrated in to the Bronco, are rated for a specific current level. I believe Aux 1 is rated for 30 amps, Aux 2 is 15 amps and Aux 3 - Aux 6 are 10 amps. This is off the top of my head, so refer to the owner's manual for the correct ratings. Because the Bronco Aux circuits and the switches in the cabin are rated for the full load, you would not need a relay. Relays are electromechanical switches that are used for higher rated circuits to control the flow of current in the primary circuit, then you can use a low current secondary control circuit to control the relay. ie a remote toggle or rocker switch in the cabin of the vehicle. So in general, light packages will include a relay for you to use the low current control switch to cover the majority of aftermarket installs.

I have a quick question and hopefully you can answering this. I want to start adding lights and maybe some other stuff to my Bronco, thanks to your video now I know which aux switch I should use depending on the Watts. My other concerns was which gauge connector should I use? So doing a bit of research the 1.5mm = 16 awg so I can buy 16 awg connectors; and 0.75mm = 20 awg, right? So my question is, if I get a light that uses less than 10 amp the logical way should be using aux 3 to 6, and those wires in the Bronco are 0.75mm, which is 20 awg, right? But most likely the light would have a 16 awg wire. Would it be safe to use a 16 awg + 16 awg connector to a 20 awg wire? We would be running “more current” from 16 awg into a 20 awg? Could the 0.75mm (20 awg) from the Bronco overheat from the “more current” from the light due to is coming from a 1.5mm (16 awg) light? Even though the wattage is way less than the amperage the circuit could hold? I hope my question is not more confusing than explanatory of my concern. Thanks,

Good question. The Bronco has two different size wires for the aux switch system. As you noted, Ford uses .75 mm (10 amp) and 1.5 mm (15/30 amp) wires from the aux switch panel to the engine compartment that are sized based on the current rating of the switch. The distribution wires from the engine compartment that run to the designated points throughout the Bronco are 1.5 mm. There is not an issue between switching wire sizes in a circuit, as long as all wires in the circuit meet the maximum current rating. As for connecting the different wire sizes, most butt connectors cover a range of wire sizes. You will need to find one that is rated for the .5 mm (16 awg) to 1.5 mm (20 awg).

Hi, can i use Kenwood V71a on that AUX ? Usually I use it directly on the battery ! It's 50W radio
@Overlanding4Fun
@Overlanding4Fun Жыл бұрын
Ahmed, good question. I looked at the manual for the V71 and it looks like it is rated for a maximum current load of 13 Amps. Aux 1 is rated for 30 Amps and Aux 2 is rated for 15 Amps. I run my Yaesu FTM-400 on Aux 2.

Why didn't they just put a 30amp fuse in the second switch? It's the same gauge of wire as switch #1

I got four lights each is 650 watts? Any solutions for that ?
@Overlanding4Fun
@Overlanding4Fun 3 ай бұрын
Good question. 650 watts is going to be between 46 and 54 amps per light on a 12 to 14 volt system. That would exceed the 30 amp rating for the largest switch in the Bronco. Most likely there will be a relay that would draw power direct from the battery and then a low current circuit to a switch that could activate the relay.

@@Overlanding4Fun so how do I install them ? Would you recommend hocking them directly to the battery with a separate switch for each
