Black bears even though cute are more dangerous to humans than grizzlies ,if you ever encounter one and it follows you it intens to eat you.

@@ivanjones8144 I think that is debatable. Grizzlies are more territorial and ready to fight, but you can scare black bears off the vast majority of the time. They are pretty shy creatures if curious, I wouldn't be terribly worried unless it was really late in their season. Still I wouldn't want to have to fight either of them.

@@mat5473 yeah watched it a long time ago. Its sad that his gf could of lived, but she stayed with him the entire time. I would have ran so far away for help although help probably would of arrived too late it was their best chance of survival because standing their for moral support doesn't do anything. But I'm not making fun of a bad decision in an intense situation, at least it shows how loyal and brave she is and those are honourable traits. R.I.P. to both. Timothy trusted bears so much he went their completely defenseless with no weapons, its so sad how naive he was with wild animals

@@Hybred IIRC his girlfriend finally tried to vacate the area whenever the bear dragged him away and then the bear tracked her down. They had written about this exact bear in their journals, that she obviously had it out for them and made them feel uncomfortable. They had established a bond with all of the other bears through the years but she was unfamiliar and it only takes one bear to fuck your world up. I think it just so happened that they were visiting a little too late in the season and there had been some sort of salmon shortage in the area so food was a little more low than usual? It’s been a while since I’ve read about this....Although I think I remember the girlfriend being extremely apprehensive and irritable because she felt uncomfortable and wanted to go. I believe that was intuition. Gut feelings should NEVER be ignored. It’s a shame they didn’t listen to theirs and that they weren’t carrying a weapon because I can imagine very few worse ways to go.

The speaking low and saying "hey bear" is to let the bear know you are there and are no threat to it on a trail and you will be slowly backing away. The idea on a deterant of any kind is to make the threatening animal feel uncomfortable or pain and to leave the area rather than be killed. Backing up the fence with spraying the bear with bear spray would enhance the electric shock.

Realist, yeah, I’m not sure bout that. I think I’m with ol Rudolf on this. Because the bear already smells you and there’s good chances it has already seen or even saw you immediately prior. So, yeah, I think it would be a good idea to make the same verbal cue you’d use for potential future close encounters. Unless, however way, you know for certain that the bear doesn’t know you’re there, than yeah, stay quite. But, probably unlikely so “HEY BEAR, BACK THE F’CK UP, please.”

Trust me that fence will stop it I have one where I live around my cabin. The electricity is equivalent to being tazed for us. For them it doesn't necessarily hurt more or less the sudden shock will throw them off guard and as there are better alternatives to getting food. The bear will usually just leave or keep trying the fence until it realizes how much work itll have to go through to maybe find food.

@@MrSkaterCat lol. Hmm. See I used to raise and tend to cattle and one of my tasks was repairing electric fences when cows would get caught up in them and either break lines or disrupt the charge. And I am talking cows. Not a polar bear which is twice as big and heavy. Trust me. If that polar bear wanted to break that fence it wouldn't have any problem at all. I wouldn't feel safe with polar bears roaming around my tent just because I have an electric fence up. Lol.
