Fire Alarm Test #62

Test of a Simplex 4010ES system in a university athletic building. Original system was a 2001 that actually functioned as part of an old 2120 multiplex for the campus. Many of the original power supplies from this old “network” are still in place yet not used. Most everything is fiber or strictly premise now.

Heh, look at the way that 4051 horn was installed at 6:58. The library at my friend's university has a Standard 450 horn installed that way, surface-mounted with a gray flush-mount grille. The library originally had a Standard Electric Time fire alarm system from 1971, and some of the old devices are still in use on the ground floor, but the rest of the building has a Simplex 4100U system with TrueAlert horn/strobes.

Interesting seeing 4051 horns installed stand-alone on an early 80s system. Typically they would've been installed on the then-new 2903 plates, or maybe even on 4050-80 light plates they were clearing out old stock on. (I've seen quite a few Simplex systems from 1977-1980 that had 4050-80s.)

Like the sound of the 4051s in continuous with the wheelock AS in code 3. And how is it doing code 3 even when the panel is in continuous? Is it on a seperate panel?

I think they have a selector switch for continuous (which can be used for if it’s coded by the panel) or code 3.

Wheelock Devices will ALWAYS do Code 3 whenever it detects the presence of a sync signal on its NA circuit

Idk the technical name of the alarm, but you made a video of an alarm with a strobe on top and a horn on the bottom that points to the left and right. It’s at 0:01 in your intro. I think it was at a school. What is the name of that alarm?

I'm guessing the Wheelock AS replaced a dead 4051 at some point given it's the only device in the system with a strobe.

When it’s steady that means a zone has been activated 1 time when it’s in march that means it was already active. Great observation.
