The wind blows, storms roll in, and the rainy season arrives in Saltpond, Ghana. The combination of overfishing and climate change produces tidal waves, storm surges, and coastal floods, resulting in damaged canoes, nets, motors, and, most devastatingly, lives.
Nana Kweigyah, the president of The Canoe and Fishing Gear Owners Association of Ghana, devotes his life to advocating for fisherpeople’s safety put at risk by climate change’s plight and tumultuous, chaotic weather. Ghana’s fisheries sector is the primary source of income for coastal communities, and Nana will continue fighting to safeguard the community’s people and the sea.
