As much love as this film got I still feel it deserved even more. The actors. The Daniels. The crew. The fight choreo guys. The practical effects. The heart. The casting choices. The courage. And even the producers who agreed to back such a thing. All I can say is more. Please more of this bravery and sincerity in our art. You have to take risks, Hollywood. Look at the result…

She was great for sure. I know a lot of people are making noise about how the film would have been wrong with Jackie Chan in Michelle yeoh's role - but could you imagine Awkwafina in Stephanie's role??! Shudders of horror intensify 😱😱😱😱 I honestly don't know what casting directors see in Awkwafina at all, she just doesn't work for me in any film I've seen her in.

love or hate the movie, you have to admit it's a cinematic achievement, especially considering its budget. there's so much heart, so much passion behind this team, and when they speak you can tell how much they love this movie. you just have to give it respect for it's maximalist approach, the performances, the themes it tackles, the uniqueness, the seamless blend of genres, and most importantly, WHAT IT DID FOR THE CHINESE AMERICAN COMMUNITY. when ppl say it's a once in a lifetime movie, they rlly mean it. and the fact that it's accomplished so much with all the odds stacked against it because of all this grassroots support warms my heart. this movie is a miracle, and i'm so happy to witness it.

Considering they have barely begun to be in it in Stephanie's case or have been out of it from the acting side for decades in Quan's side I think you are kinda saying "oh wow, fresh actually means fresh!!" It would be more surprising to see someone who had been in Hollywood in the limelight for decades that acted differently. Give it a decade or 2 before gushing over their freshness - the river eventually grinds everything in its path down.

I'm glad to see Stephanie Hsu getting some recognition. It's also great that another young Asian American actress is getting some success on the big screen- For a while now, it seemed the only option was Awkwafina..
@sandothemando8924
@sandothemando8924 Жыл бұрын
And to think Awkwafina almost played Stephanie Hsu's role. I think it would have been fine with Awkwafina, but I'm so, so glad it went to Stephanie. She bought so many layers and emotions to the performance that only she was capable of and I think Awkwafina would have struggled to replicate that. I also agree with you that it's great to see another Asian American actress get the attention they deserve and increase the talent pool for Asian actors in Hollywood.

and the honest reality is that Crazy Rich Asians was actually rather borderline, when understanding it being about a fusion culture in Singapore, with heavily heavily western (British) foundation. If the English hadnt colonized Malaya and Singapura, the city wouldnt have had the impetus to grow into the giant commercial powerhouse it is. Very similar issues with the rises of Macau and Heung Gong
