A tour of my apartment here in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The apartment complex is "Lucky Residence Suites" located in a residential area within Bình Thạnh district. This is something you can find for around 500USD. Although there are cheaper options available, for those only staying in the city for a year or so this might be a convenient option.

Temperature wise, Saigon isn’t hot at all compared to most U.S cities. In the summer, temperatures get as high as the low 90’s Fahrenheit. The “hot” feeling is caused by the high humidity that makes you sweat.

I would like to share some fun facts: Ho Chi Minh real name was Nguyễn Sinh Cung and Ho Chi Minh city was known as Saigon city. Saigon was found by a high-ranking general Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh 1698. Since then, Saigon had become the dream land for many Vietnamese who lived in other parts of Vietnam who wanted to find a better place to live. Saigon eventually became the most prosperity city in all of Vietnam. Especially, when Ngo Dinh Diem was the president of Saigon, this city turned into an ideal place when education was offered for free and the South Vietnamese people were already able to produce and manufacture automobiles (way way before the South Korea, China). Saigon was called "the Pearl of the oriented" and many people believed that it would potentially become the next Japan. During that time, Nguyễn Sinh Cung (later he changed his name to Hồ Chí Minh) traveled to China to seek for military aids and training from Mao Zedong. While visiting China, Nguyễn Sinh Cung adopted a Chinese name, Hồ Chí Minh, and he later declared war and invaded Sài Gòn. Having China (Vietnam’s most fierce enemy) had his back, Ho Chi Minh’s invasion plan succeeded. After the Fall of Saigon, Ho’s government quickly replaced the name Saigon city with a Chinese name: Hồ Chí Minh city. This is why the name Ho Chi Minh city causes a lot of controversial among the Vietnamese for two reasons: First, for thousands of years, China has always tried to invade Vietnam and now Vietnam’s biggest city is named after a Chinese name and this makes many Vietnamese people feel insulted. Second, since Sài Gòn was found by the general Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh, not Ho Chi Minh or Nguyễn Sinh Cung, many Vietnamese people still not accept the name Ho Chi Minh city. In addition, Ho Chi Minh was the main cause that starts the Vietnam War that killed millions of casualties, the name Ho Chi Minh city has only reminded Vietnamese people about the pains and suffers. The division between the South and North Vietnam was really similar to the division between the South and North Korea. Although North Korean leaders are considered dictators by many, they still have avoided war with their counterpart at all cost and allow the South Korean people to in peace and that allows Korea to become a superpower today. Unlike Nguyễn Sinh Cung (Ho Chi Minh), who allied with his country's enemy, China, to invade Sài Gòn and the Vietnam war took away millions of innocent lives.

At least NDD did not change his Vietnamese last name to an American last name like Smith or Johnson. Unlike the Chinese's puppet Nguyen Sinh Cung changed his Vietnamese last name to a Chinese's, Ho, so that Mao could accept Ho as his adopted son. It's you do not turn yourself into a blind beggar for the Chinese colonialism.

Thuât Hùng Biện Your Vietnamese Republican regime The flag comes from the chieftain Thanh Thai, the puppet emperor of the Vatican and France. National Anthem of the Communist Party (Voice of Youth) + bombing the innocent people for a few soldiers ambushed communist. (Tết Mau pro-1968, My Lai, ...) + To spread dioxin. The president is replaced by the assassinated by the military. + The military ranked 4th in the world lost to communist VIETNAM (non-professional training.) Nixon: To transform North Vietnam into a stone age (if the North Vietnamese were not Vietnamese) + The economy is based on US aid. Cutting aid, President NVT fled + Put the Korean army, the US, ... into them to comfortably arson, rape. kill the innocent people. VIETNAMESE COMMUNITY is not a Chinese or Russian soldier. (Weapons are supported by Russia and China. + Far East Pearl - Saigon, but only thanks to the US financial, + Text, voice, the use of Sino-Vietnamese for education, and communists VIETNAM only use the word pure Vietnamese. + Never dare to tell the truth, dare to accept the error. The army goes to the house without rape, robs the chicken, the dog. + Torture cruel, genocide-Con Dao. (communist VIETNAM has never been) - torture collectors head prisoners, carrying a necklace made from the string of victims. + Soldiers for survival (1 soldier feeding the whole house). Vietnamese soldiers, volunteer soldiers, married five children killed five soldiers, where to go to the people to enjoy it. All that is enough to understand what should exist and should be eliminated.

Lolz at your extremely poor knowledge about your own country's history. Thanh Thai was known for caring for his country and rebelled against the French. That was why he was exiled when his plan failed. Unliked Nguyen Sinh Sac (Nguyen Sinh Cung or Ho Chi Minh's father) was working for the French but he was demoted for abusing his power. His son, Nguyen Sinh Cung, later, ran to China and begged for military help from the enemy - China - so that Cung could invade Saigon. During his stay in China, Nguyen changed his Vietnamese name to a Chinese name, Ho Chi Minh, to please his Chinese masters. From your great grand father Nguyen Sinh Sac, to your grand daddy Ho Chi Minh, and now you Vietcong are all running the traitor blood inside of you.
6 жыл бұрын
It was you who reply to my comment and after I revealed how Ho Chi Minh was just a puppet for the enemy - China - and how Ho was a traitor, all of a sudden, you claimed that no longer want to involve in this argument because you're too afraid to listen to the truth because you are in your denial. You also afraid that the more you're involved in this argument, the more I will show the ugly and evil sides of Ho Chi Minh for everyone to see. Now, last but not least, show me evidences that 95 million of Vietnamese people support Ho Chi Minh ??? If you can't back it up, it is you who is parasite.

Vietnam was really cool, I actually still prefer the food there! You are right though it can't compare with Taiwan in terms of safety, petty crime, health care. However I do feel like housing quality in Vietnam might be better than Taiwan. The quality of apartments along with the price make it hard to beat! I always think Vietnam would be a great place for a extended stay... I am actually hoping to go back after things open up again, perhaps a two month work/vacation or something like that.. Danang has always been on my bucket list!

Nice place, thanks for sharing but what puzzles me is with the war time history that we have with Vietnam, why are young Americans drawn there? I know millennials oftentimes don't know their own history but you seem bright and aware...any thoughts on the subject?
@Travelingjoe
@Travelingjoe 5 жыл бұрын
This is the coolest and most interesting question I have been asked so far so thank you! I did not know a whole lot about Vietnamese culture until I moved to Washington DC and met some really great friends who had just moved to the United States. We eventually became roommates and I started finding out more and more about the food, language, music, etc.. my friends are very kind people so they really influenced my decision to try out Vietnam. If I hadn't met them I doubt I would have gone to Vietnam and instead probably have gone straight to Taiwan which is where I am now. As for the wartime history I really didn't get the impression that anyone there holds any resentment towards Americans. I was living in Saigon/Ha Tinh and in general everyone I met was extremely friendly and kind. The only war related thing I ran into was an elderly Vietnamese neighbor I had who wore what looked like an old ARVN uniform that would sometimes salute me me when I walked by. I would say there really isn't any ill will towards Americans (If anything I saw more resentment towards China). Even the restaurant Obama/Anthony Bourdain had eaten at has been turned into a little foodie hotspot. You can go to Hanoi and try the "Obama combo" (delicious), so American culture seems pretty welcomed. Perhaps a reason a lot of young people are drawn here is because the cost of living is very cheap compared to other parts of the world. Not only that but the country itself has many beautiful places to see and visit for example Dalat Vietnam which was one of my favorite cities. There are of course drawbacks to living in Vietnam but old wartime grudges are not one of them. All in all it is a very open country with a fantastic coffee culture, most certainly worth a trip!

Hey buddy.. Cool video!! Questions? If in need of medical and/or dental services, how and where would you be hospitalized? Also is health insurance/dental insurance recognize anywhere in Vietnam?
@Travelingjoe
@Travelingjoe 5 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you! Although I never had any sort of insurance when I was in Vietnam I did have to go to the hospital once or twice after getting sick. I payed out of pocket as it seemed to be the simplest solution as well as pretty affordable. I am not sure about the dentist however I would imagine if you are in Hanoi or Saigon that it wouldn't be too difficult to find an English speaking dentist around. I do not have experience with more serious health concerns myself while in Vietnam. However I have coworkers that have gone through motorbike accidents and such that have told me it can be a real hassle to find treatment.

Danny dragon - I agree. I feel the same way about Phillipines. So many expats now living there. Then they bring their liberal ideology. Pretty soon they be asking for equal rights in a country that welcome them to “Visit” not live there for the rest of their lives. What pisses me off even more is that all the expats retiring there are having a better life than the actual natives. Then they vlog about their amazing travels when half of the population in its own country can’t even afford to travel to those places within their own country.
