Sail and Rail to Dublin from Holyhead and Crewe. Irish Ferries.
The West Coast Main Line (WCML) links Glasgow Central via Crewe to London Euston with branches to Liverpool Lime Street as well loop lines such as Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New Street for example.
The Avanti West Coast Train shown here going north out of Crewe is going to Blackpool North using the 25kV AC overhead Electrification. The Pendolino was ordered by Virgin Trains after the privatisation of British Rail with trains made in Italy by Alstom and Fiat Ferroviaria.
Avanti West Coast is owned by First Group 70% Trenitalia 30%. Trenitalia is subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane owned by the Italian Government.
Going out of Crewe the Trafnidiaeth Cymru/Transport for Wales service is a Class 197 Diesel Multiple Unit. The Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) is a Spanish firm with these Civity trains built in Newport, South Wales.
The train passes Crewe Heritage Centre passing various rolling stock, such as the InterCity APT (Advanced Passenger Train) in InterCity Executive Livery). The APT was designed by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) with Tilting Train Technology which was sold to the Italians then bought back with the Pendolino trains.
The North Wales Coast Main Line is currently unelectrified and run by Network Rail. In Chester a change is made onto another Class 197. A Class 508 Merseyrail Electric EMU runs on the Wirral Line, 750v DC Third Rail. These trains will be replaced by the Class 777 Stadler made by Stadler Rail in Switzerland.
Passing along the North Wales Coast there is the former Ferry the Duke of Lancaster which was run by Sealink a subsidiary of BR on the former Holyhead to Dún Laoghaire.
The train crosses the Menai Strait into Anglesey/Ynys Môn to Holyhead. The Class 220 Voyager will be replaced by the Hitachi Class 805.
In Holyhead passengers pass Celtic Gateway Bridge. Irish Ferries take the helm. A Bus run by O. R. Jones & Sons of Llanfaethlu, Holyhead, links the railway station with the ferries. A luggage van carrying the luggage and bicycles.
The Ulysses is the vessel sailing across the Irish. As the ferry sails it runs ahead of the Stena Adventurer which will follow in it's wake. The Stena Estrid is moored.
The ferry sails out beyond Holyhead Breakwater crossing the Irish Sea. Bad weather hid South Stack Lighthouse. On Irish Coast the Ferry passes Howth Head. The ferry passes Poolbeg Lighthouse (Irish Lights) and lands in Dublin Port.
The city centre is reached by Bicycle passing Alexandra Road which has a railway tramway which has 5 ft 3 in Irish Gauge (1,600 mm). The 4 ft 8+1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) Standard Gauge is seen on the LUAS tramway and Network Rail. Spencer Dock Luas seen.
Dublin Connolly is run by Irish Rail/Iarnród Éireann. There are trains to Sligo run by Irish Rail as well as the Enterprise to Belfast Lanyon Place run jointly by Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) and Iarnród Éireann (IE). The Commuter train to Drogheda is 29000 Class a DMU made in Spain by CAF. The Sligo train is a 22000 Class made by Rotem in South Korea. The Diesel Locomotive is a GM (General Motors) is a 201 made in Canada with DeDetrich with Mark 4 Carriages made in France. The Enterprise is heading to Belfast.
