My nephew just made captain in December. He’d been a mate for a few years now.. he’s on a tug pushing a tanker barge . He sales from Texas to New England and back.. 3 weeks on 3 weeks off… working on being a harbor pilot..

Must admit, if I was a young teen again looking at this I would be looking into how this could be possible for myself! This video will help give career ideas for younger generations that might not want to go into office work wanting a be practical and skilled career to be proud of. As an adult, I am enjoying watching these wonderful machines at work and respect to those working these powerful things which are beasts. Now I am curious on what steps you took to operate one of these tugs out of curiosity. KZfaq recommended a gem right here.

Much appreciated!! That really means a lot! It’s a 3 to 4 year process to get into the wheelhouse. You can go to maritime school or work your way up from the deck. Both take about the same amount of time

It has more to do with the fact that realistic water physics are very hard and expensive to do, and ship simulators have a small audience.

There is a kid that plays a few games as myself who is working on a tech to bring the whole, switching seats in game to real life. He is trying to develop Cameras that are connected to booms that allow the captain to "Switch Positions" in the ship to get better views. not just camera screens. But walking around in the bridge and looking out the window gives you the impression that you are now at the bow of the ship. the images would be relayed to special window screens that would project the new image. all because of a video game. kids like 19.

I assume thats what it is. Amazing how you can pull a big cargo ship using that rope, what is that rope rated too, and have you ever snapped one? I would recommend taking a plane and fair warning, getting to sightseeings or point of interests can take a long time (usually 200 km +, one way) and the ascend/descend is terrifying and awesome at same time. And all those mountains and valleys what you see in TV or photos, it´s NOTHING compared to be there personally :)

For those who may not understand. It’s actually the opposite lads. Sci Fi naval stuff takes inspiration from irl navy.
