We sail from Pangkor, Malaysia to the Anambas Islands, Indonesia. It was a stressful trip, but we made it safely!

Hello! I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to see an in-depth long-term review of the Antares 44. Has the quality lived up to your expectations? Which modifications have you made over the years that those of us considering purchasing one might make out of the factory? Thank you!

Sure. We'll do a bit on the Antares, and highlight some of our changes and our overall impressions. It's been 8 years this December since we moved aboard...we can't believe it! :)

What do you think of the Antares 44 build quality versus the St Francis 50 Mk2? It sounds like you really like the Antares build quality and layout, but I wondered how that might compare to the SF50MK2.

@@Lauterbach24 I can only speak of the SF50 from 8 years ago when I looked at them. Between the two, we went Antares due to the details inside the boat, and in my opinion better track record of quality with good yard support. Another Antares owner sold his Antares, bought the SF50 about two years ago, and now has sold the SF50 and purchased another Antares. That probably speaks for itself.

@@mdsilvers thanks for the response. The Antares looks like a great boat for blue water cruising. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.

The "Honking" usually signals something like: "I'm bigger than you... MOVE your ass"! Of course, according to the International rules one blast means "I'm passing to port" Two blast says "I'm passing to starboard" and so on. But basically it all means "Stay the hell out of my way"!

This is awesome experience! I'm curious did you pass the visa/passport security check? How do you allowed to enter the country by sailing?
@mdsilvers

Hello. We have to clear Into a country at official ports of entry as any ship would need to do. We still need all the paperwork and meet with customs and immigration for every country. Cargo ships, cruise ships, ferries and sailboats all use the same process.

You said you are going to replace the volvo engine. May i know why? and what brand will it be?
@mdsilvers
@mdsilvers 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. Internet has been spotty. Yes, we replaced due to a Volvo recall on the D2-40s. Volvo paid for the recall, labor, etc to get new D2-40s. Volvo has been GREAT, and I cant recommend them enough as they really took care of us.

OMG! You know you broke so many laws by flying that drone in the Singapore Strait. You're very lucky you weren't approached by Singapore Police and fined for that. The airspace in Singapore is so small and very strictly managed and drone usage is heavily controlled. You definitely dodged one there! Wow. I've lived in Singapore for over 30 yrs and drone use is a super hot issue these past couple of years with many personal drone users being made examples of. National security is top priority for Singapore and un-regulated use of drones is viewed as a major no-no. The Abu Sayyaf (SE Asia branch of Al Qaeda) have terror cells in Indonesia and the bombing-by-drone threat is of concern for the Singapore military.

We are not aware that there are drone laws for international waters. We were not in Singapore waters when flying the drone. We were in the international shipping lane.
