That boat is getting a lot of use. I've owned several boats in the past 40 years, each purchase based on a dream to use it. And each time the boat mostly sat trailered in storage or in my yard.

Terrific videos and I have to say , as much as I'm drawn to the sea, I don't think I'd feel as comfortable in Wave Rover as you obviously do! One thing I'm curious about, since one's mental makeup and temperament are so important to singlehanding, is whether you find yourself becoming more or less introverted as your time at sea increases. Do you reach a point where you can't wait to see land again or does the thought of being back on the hard just make you want to stay on the wet? Cheers and safe travels with the next Wave Rover!

You did some Beautiful work on your former home Wave Rover. I can only hope that my Gladiator24 is half as nice if I can ever get done...My resources are limited and employment inconsistant with the virus and all and prior back injury. But one day I will fill youtube with a transpacific voyage on a 24' masthead sloop. I am building starboard covers for my entire cockpit to avoid too swamping it as the 6 2 inch drains wouldnt drain a big wave before the balance of the small boat would be put in jeopardy.

Did Mrs. Wave Rover sew up the storm jib? If so what is the hi-vis fabric, and where did you find it?
@SailingWaveRover
@SailingWaveRover 3 жыл бұрын
It's a storm jib that I bought from a sail maker when I was in the Canaries. It's heavy weight dacron and he cut quite a bit off the foot (it was a used sail that looked like it was never used) to get it to the size that Wave Rover needed.

If I may intrude... Does your wife knows that most other sailboats, like in the 34-37 foot range are also much safer to cross oceans?
@SailingWaveRover

@flyingdutchman6984

The reality is when you are dealing with something as large as the ocean the length of the vessel doesn't exactly make much difference as far as safety is concerned.
@BStrapper
@BStrapper 3 жыл бұрын
@@flyingdutchman6984 true if you get 150 knots wind, not true if you get 50 knots... For anyone getting the meteo with iridium and crossing at the righ season, avoid 150 knots wind is easy. Avoid gust around 50 knots not as much. That is why crossing on a 34 footer is much safer than on a 28, all other things equal in term of shape and weight proportions.
@flyingdutchman6984
@flyingdutchman6984 3 жыл бұрын
@@BStrapper - I'm still not getting how a smaller sailboat is somehow less safe. When the big boat sinks people jump into a small lifeboat. I would wager in that case the smaller vessel is safer. 😃 I wouldn't want to be sitting on a Laser out there but, any well built racer or cruiser should at the very least be safe. I spent over two decades living aboard a 27 foot sailboat, and never really felt unsafe while sailing. I was scared plenty of times but, never felt like I would have been safer in a sailboat ten feet longer. I would agree that most people feel safer on a larger vessel but, that doesn't mean it is safer. Maybe it's just how we define safe. Cheers. 🍻

@@flyingdutchman6984 Larger boats are heavier, heavier boats are more stable. Heavier boats aren't going to get thrown around as much and in the case of a keelboat, that heavier hull and keel are going to provide a better righting moment. I don't think it's so much that "small boats aren't safe" but that "larger boats are safer" which is just quantifiably true. Obviously any kind of boat can be used to cross oceans (the polynesians were crossing the pacific 3000 years ago in canoes), but having a bigger boat is just going to make it better, all else being equal.
