It may not be a pipe leak at all, If the one way valve in the pump starts to leak it allows water to flow back into the tank. As the pressure drops in the plumbing system the pump turns on to bring the pressure but up to the turn off pressure. It usually shows up as occasional short pump cycle that gets more frequent and longer as the one way valve gets worse. A check valve before the pump inlet might?? be easier than finding a pump replacement.

I had the same issue. The check valve in the pump pressure switch had a chunk of calcium in it letting pressure drop slowly. Just cleaned the switch

A pressure gauge, and a shrader style air gauge is always a great thing to have in your water line systems. You can do pressure drop over time test. If you have an obvious leak or what you suspect is a very slow leak, you can pressurize with air and use the time tested and true method of soapy water in a squirt bottle, spraying each of your connections 1 by 1 looking for bubbles. Even the tiniest of little pisser air leaks on the back side of a cramped compartment will make bubbles in soapy water you can see with a flashlight and a little mechanics mirror or a compact mirror on a selfie stick if you don't have a mechanics extending mirror.

Yup, there probably is a check valve in front of the pressure switch that is back leaking into your tank. Might just need to be cleaned.

We make noise, our ambitions are admirable on this journey of life, but the best moments along the way our small, solitary and quiet in my belief. For an instance we see all our efforts for what they are, necessities of our own choice, but we are what we are and it is what it is. We are small in this world but we think big and when we trim to the breeze that there is and not the breeze, there ought to be, the wind will always bring us home.

Those Diesel heaters are nice units. The trucks I work on have them. If you don't have one already get you a carbon monoxide detector. Just incase the unit has an exhaust failure.

The little muffler on the diesel heater leaks exhaust! There is a drain hole for condensation at the bottom it also leaks all of the way around and even at the hole where you can mount it to something. You don’t need it inside the engine bay and can mount it outside by slipping it on to the through hull. My friend Paul Brodie wielded mine up for me. Tricky to do. With. Your setup you will suck exhaust. Use exhaust putty to seal all of the joints and put aluminum tape on if you can. The best air intake is to draw from the cabin not from the engine room is add an intake vent to circulate the air and check with a carbon monoxide alarm. They work great to dry the air but that muffler will trick you. If you just blow on it with your mouth and plug the other end with your hand you will,see and hear the leaks ok. Hope you get the carbon monoxide tester and thanks for the video

Travis, as said above. What comes in the Chinese kits is not marine grade. Get proper exhaust piping (lost of boats in UK have these heaters and good local companies provide the parts you need). DO NOT USE THAT MUFFLER. It is meant to be outdoors. You can get a marine grade/sealed one if you think you need to reduce noise .

Near to the water pump there should be an accumulation tank, its job is to keep pressure in the fresh water system but over time the pressure falls and the causes the pump to keep cutting in.

Diesel heater on a boat. I have similar self fitted. It's important to get the exhaust right for safety. Ditch the kit exhaust and replace with a stainless genuine Eberspacher marine unit that won't gas you to death. High temp silicone works to seal exhaust joins nicely. Run exhaust properly out to transom with a swan neck. Get the fine bore plastic pipe fuel hose kit, makes a real difference. Don't gas yourself with the dangerous exhaust though, top priority. Loads of info on the net also.

Guys, these water pumps have fairly weak non return valve (check valve) with the pump stop start is a good sign of the non return valve, what I did after replacing the pump a few times I got a non return valve from a plumbing supplies and install it in the line after the pump about 5 years ago and no problem so far

Fresh Water Pump cycling on and off. I have had that on my boat a few times over the years. I would bet that there is air leaking from one of your fresh water line connections. Check and tighten your hose clamps, etc and I think once you do that the problem may resolve itself.

hi - diesel heater probably already done ?? but a great vlog is John McK 47 - he has 17 videos on diesel heaters - also, again you may have already done this BUT very important to have a CO / carbon monoxide alarm especially in a boat - that leaky exhaust which will be smoke free if the heater is working properly, emits CO - an eternal sleep awaits - I have one in the caravan and they are great and very safe BUT I also have the CO monitor - its just common sense same as a fire alarm - the CO alarm is also good for any holes that may happen the engine exhaust -

Love your videos and feel for your trials with the heater as mine has become temperamental but they are great when they are working and really warm the place up. A word of warning if you are using electric scooters in the UK, the Government haven't made up their minds yet so it's ok to rent one and ride it anywhere but privately owned ones can only be used on private land with the landowner's permission. Northern Ireland have ruled that they are ok and treated the same as e-bikes but not in mainland UK! Enforcement varies from area to area and which Police Officer stops you with a friendly advice or to charge you with operating a motor vehicle without insurance and possibly licence. 😕

I had a similar thing, with pump going on; it turned out to be a leaking head faucet. Not leaking enough to be able to see droplet coming out of it, but enough to drop the pressure in the line to trigger the pump. Eventually, I did catch it in the act; took it apart and found a broken internal rubber seal.

I am sorry for being critical here, but I do not understand why you would want to instal the heater so you would be able to uninstal it. Make it a proper permanent installation with the heater unit in the aft lazarette, for example, and hot air ducts running low to the floor through the cabinetry. I am sure your boat is large enough to do this.. Another thing is fuel supply. On my boat the fuel supply is taken from the same filter/separator that supplies the engine. This way you have a proper robust filter sitting in the engine room instead of this dinky plastic thing that might burst.
@SailingJibsea
@SailingJibsea Жыл бұрын
We don’t have enough space in the aft lazarette for us to be comfortable installing in there and lose air flow efficiency the longer the hose is. Currently with where we’ve located it, we get even heat distribution between our aft cabin and saloon. Since it’s in our engine room, it’s recycling the raised temp of air in there making it more efficient. Also, we only need the heater temporarily so we prefer to remove the exhaust since it will not be used.

Hi both, I had a few problems with fuel delivery on my CDH. After watching far too many YT vids I discovered an Aussie guru of heaters. In the end he showed that the fuel prime bulb I used and black Lloyds cert fuel line allowed too much movement in the fuel line and caused an air reservoir pocket in the bulb. I removed it and put in a small inner diameter hard plastic fuel line and it’s been fine since. The way you’ve connected the exhaust to the hull fitting doesn’t stop carbon monoxide from leaking into the hull. It should be fitted to the protutruded part with exhaust paste to make it airtight.

I had a tuff leak to find and it turned out to be the hot water tank. My hot water tank is packed in foam and that absorbs the water and then it oozes out slow and this would also explain why the dye didn't show up.

hi loving your story i installed the same heater on my boat but the exhaust manifold is not compliant with the uk regs for boats! (and doesn't make a difference to the noise) they leak fumes and can only be used externally on RVs or camper vans ETC. you should be able to find the info on KZfaq. a boat safe exhaust cost about £30 and are available on ebay or amazon. also the exhaust wrap will give off fumes until it is properly quered(?) to the extreme heat. keep safe & keep making the videos

Greetings from the west coast of Canada. I’ve been following you two since the beginning and thank you for the excellent videos. I especially enjoy the historical content of the places you visit. Regarding the water system, have you considered a pressure test? Installing a valve close to the water tank outlet (converting and old cycle inner tube works) and pumping it up to say 40 psi (use a tire gauge to test pressure) and leave it to see if it looses pressure over time. That way you will know if you indeed have a leak and you can soap joints/lines to find the leak.
@SailingYachtSaltyLass
@SailingYachtSaltyLass Жыл бұрын
Intermittment "Brrpp" noises are probably caused by a leak in the non-return valve just before the pump. Water on the high pressure side leaks back to the low pressure side triggering the pump to re-pressurise the system which then slowly leaks back to the low water side. Order the water pump from Amazon and do not over-pressurize the system.

The heater exhaust may not have a leak unless it bent to sharply and kinked, you have to burn about two full tanks(2 gallons) to stop the new smell, the smoking and the plastic smell, When it gets hot when its new there is something that burns off the exhaust pipe, Probably due to the metal type. If you were heating with propane it is a wet heat, it causes condensation. The diesel heater will be a dry heat. The output air of the heater is between 200 to 300 degrees F, so it will heat up the output hose. Let us know if it warms ok, stay safe.

Those exhausts and silencer are designed to be used outside a vehicle. The silencer probably has a drain hole in it - potentially leaking carbon monoxide into the boat. You may also want to note that those E scooters are illegal to use in public in the UK. Hopefully the rules will change soon - because they could be ideal for that use. Until then could be very expensive if you encounter a police officer.
