Videos like this make me realize just how talented old school animators were. They had to be very skilled because they couldn't depend as much on technology. The level of attention to detail and creative direction is insane, and trumps a lot of newer animation. Kudos to them.

The original SuperS transformation saved me from myself over the course of a single school year. I stuck around to see how the season would finish… and although I didn’t get to watch that, I was still alive by the end of the school year. I thanked the English dub voice actress, Linda Ballantyne, face to face one time at an anime convention. I cried for joy instead of sadness that time. 💖💕

Crystal flopped cause they seem to try to change or modernized something that’s been rooted deep in the hearts of many; the 90’s animations for either transformation and attack clips seem to be very well thought out, highly curated, and carefully presented through its every little details from each movements, the background songs and little vocals, to the colors and illustrations. Hence even if I have watched it millions of times, it still and always brings such a wonderful feeling and I never grow tired nor bored of it. Anyway, thanks for putting this up! GREAT WORK xxoo

Holy crap the cacophony of Usagi's voices from all 8 clips HAHAHA. I like how it shows that the seiyuu managed to keep the voice over the years. Interestingly, the 3D transformation for Moon Prism Power in Crystal is ironically the longest... Longest transformation for 1990s: Eternal Sailor Moon Shortest transformation for 1990s + Crystal: Super Sailor Moon with Super Sailor Chibi Moon The 1990s had some interesting concepts executed in the transformations, but it was different from the magical girl transformations predating it for sure. Furthermore, it being hand drawn does help it have more realistic movements and smoother animation that Crystal tends to flop at if you pay too close attention to them. It's also faster. In the modern Crystal, the transformations are much slower and fluid in the sense that it's less rigid. It also comes with more fluff and details since it is digitally animated. However, Crystal reminds me too much of Pretty Cure's modern transformations, especially for the non-3D animation for Sailor Moon. The way the camera follows Usagi's limbs is reminiscent of Pretty Cure transformations in the same time period Crystal aired. Very curious to see how Crystal Eternal Sailor Moon transformation will be done.

I love Sailor Moon so much but Sailor Moon S is where the anime peaked. No offense to SuperS or Sailor Stars but S was damn near perfect.

I think moon prism power in crystal was good for only FIRST epsoide. To make impact. And i loved it from the start I mean or nostalgia came back. But they used the same long transformation every single epsoide except ep 9 (I still cry to that epsoide lol) every transformation is so good!!!

I know everyone hates crystal season 1 but it is the one that has the most love and attention put into it

Here is what I like best from each transformation: Original - everything, because it's OG. R - The Compact being guided to the chest, the wings, the skirt appearance, the few feathers that appear here and there, the final pose S - The heart outline around her while she spins, her pony tails spiral, the one foot in the air getting booted Super S - The double compact hearts, Chibi Moon's silhouette appearing in front of SM, the double fanned skirts, the mother-daughter kiss pose - and that it lasts for more than a beat Stars - The feathers from no where, THE WINGS, the angel pose mid transformation, the tail ribbons on the final pose I don't like anything from Crystal or Eternal.

Just what we all suspected: the season 1 Crystal Moon Prism henshin is… astonishingly longer than any of the rest 😅 I really like all of them though, I can’t even pick a favorite.

I really like what Crystal did with the animation, like I'm all for having something new as the transformation sequence. Since the 90s series was so iconic, I'd want the new version to be something different, especially given the difference in technology available. What I did not like was the score. It just sounds like something yanked from Naruto. The 90s transformations all had superior scores to me, like I will listen to OG Season 1's transformation sequence on loop while I work, it's just that good. Meanwhile, Crystal just did not hype me up the same way. So I think that really just hurt the Crystal transformations, and when they just replicated the Dream transformation it even further brought comparison, and I prefer the 90s version not for nostalgia, but because of the score. Note that this is coming from someone who just picked up Sailor Moon for the first time this past October. So I have no attachment to the 90s anime in the slightest. Anyway, thanks for putting this together!! Always nice to have all of the sequences in one video for easy comparison lol
