Sailormoon Crisis Moon Needle Felt - Free Template! Collab with Makocinnos

I'm honoured to work on a collab with amazing crafter Makocinnos! We decided to make tutorials on the theme of Sailormoon. SM has a special meaning for me because I owe my entire career to two small trading cards that I found in a shop in China when I was 8. I fell in love with the illustrations and decided right then that I wanted to learn how to draw manga.

For this tutorial I was quite interested in doing some mixed media work with needlefelt. I drew a Crisis Moon compact from scratch which I'm quite proud of because the crystal pattern took ages to get right :D! I'm happy for anyone to use this design for free for their personal projects but please credit and (if possible) link back to Maqaroon's channel. Here are the download links:

If you don't want to needle felt or find this too difficult, then feel free to do this tutorial with clay! Simply use the same template and trace onto thinly rolled sheets of clay. Instead of using plastic you can also paint the pattern directly onto hardened clay and add sparkle with nail polish. This would make the tutorial easier and faster, and you will still end up with a cute Crisis Moon compact!

@@theyellowcatclock8429 Oh lol! I completely forgot about this! I haven't actually tried it yet. Although in the 5 years since my original comment, I've made a friend who needle felts. I have however...taken up diamond painting. And I've gotten pretty good at crochet now!

Awesome! Your such an inspiration!! Ever since I saw your tutorials, I really wanted to try needle felting, and I did! I found out that I'm actually not that bad at doing it, it just takes a lot of patience. :)

I'm so happy to hear that! Yes it's actually really not as difficult as it looks, it simply takes a huge amount of time. If you can poke for 5mins, then you already have the skill required to poke for 5 hours...which makes all the difference between a basic and professional-looking needlefelt piece ;)

Aww thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you like my videos. Please feel free to use the template on other things like clay, which will be a bit easier to make. Or you can even use the vector version to have the charm cut out of acrylic for a long-lasting piece.

It is felting wool and the name that the brand came up with for it is 'Wool Candy'. Also the needle is called a felting needle, and the craft is called needlefelt. Google it if you would like to learn more.

Maqaroon, why didn't you just use felt/wool candy for the crystal part? You still could've added glitter to it, or ise a spesific sparkly brand.

It's usually sold as 'Magic Eraser' or 'Dust Eraser' in the cleaning supplies section of any large DIY or drugstore. It's called melamine foam and similar to a dense sponge that people use for cleaning up :)

Hi Joanne :) I have a question~ I tried felting with magic eraser I bought from ebay ^^ I felted for a really long time at least an hour and I still get the wispy bits.. But when I finish one side I turn over and get wispies on the other side then when I do that side the other side gets it.. Am I doing something wrong or is the melamine foam no good? :o

Hi! It could be possible that you were working too straight down with the needle so the wool simply gets pushed back and forth through the foam. Try felting with the needle at a 45° angle, so you're flattening the wispy bits across the surface of the piece. Another possibility is the brand of wool, I find cheaper brands (eg from Daiso kits) harder to felt and still get wispies even after a long time. Lastly, if the rest of your piece looks quite good, with a smooth layer of felt all over then you can simply cut off extra stray wisps with scissors! I do that for most of my pieces when they're complete. Hope this helps and good luck!

@Jasmine Liu You should be able to find the foam in the cleaning supplies section of any large supermarket or drugstore. It's sold next to the dishwashing sponges/washing up liquid, and usually called "Magic Eraser" or "Melamine Foam". If you can't find it, then search for "Melamine Foam" on your local Amazon and they should definitely have some there.

This is by far my favorite one of your videos. I like the mix ASMR and quiet music. Full ASMR videos are nice, but I do like to have quiet music playing when I do any project and being Im just getting into Needle Felting Im sure Ill be listening to music as I do my projects as it helps me stay focused. And knowing me Ill need that being Ill be using something that can stab me up which really wont be good for my state of happiness. LOLZ!! Though Ive never felted anything, I feel like I want THIS to be my very first project. But I know I should start with the Kittens. I Just Love Sailor Moon!! Well....Not Sailor Moon herself as Ive always been partial to Sailors Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, and Pluto....But the show I Love. I feel like watching it all over again because of this video.
