More than half the personnel on all the world's seagoing vessels come from the Philippines. They keep international maritime trade afloat.
The Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific in the Philippines is the world's largest institute of maritime higher education.

I'm a european captain of a chemical tanker, i have filipino men on my ship. They are the absolute best crew i could ever ask for. Hardworking, good at their jobs and very motivated. These men do not skip a day without performing their duties 110% and all that with a smile on their face. Only i wish they would be appreciated more economically since they are worth double of every single cent they are given. I could not give more praise to them. Salamat kaayo ug mabuhay❤🇵🇭

I was working in a hotel as roomboy when I was young, I'm happy with my employer because they give me chances to go to school at night meaning I work at day and go to school at night and now I became an electrical Engineer.

This is a hard life, but it says a lot about what people are willing to do to support their families. God bless the Philippines.

Just think what if all the Filipino merchant marines, nurses, medical staff, engineers, architects and other service oriented workers in the world suddenly decided to stop working for a week all at the same time the world economy will be deeply affected.

A school like this is an excellent idea, however the men who man these vessels must never be used or treated unfairly, some nations like South Korea have a union for their merchant seamen and prefer to crew their ships with nationals, so whatever works best for each nation should be pursued.

Interesting topic, they're called the modern hero of the Philippines. You should have followed their successes in every town they live, many of them have the biggest houses in their towns. It might be the lowest payed in European standard but its a lot of money in Philippines. Next I would suggest follow the Nurse's careers or the Engineers working in the middle East and the US. It's Entertainment and a vacation to the West but for Fillipinos it's Life, the bread and butter to feed those families back home and I'm one of them. I've been gone for 30years, they call us OFW (Overseas Foreign Workers). It's a big sacrifice at the same time a big achievement for us and our families. Cheers to those Filipino Sailors. Without them and the rest of the OFW s Philippine economy would collapse.
