Outstanding craftsmanship with the sail pack Sam! Looks great and some nice custom features. If you carry around that sewing machine and some sewing materials you can probably use that as a great source of income during your sailing adventures. Looking forward to seeing Pickled Herring ready to splash into the water again soon! Thanks for sharing!

sometimes for zippers I like to sew two sides together, then sew the zipper to both sides, then seam rip the line where I stitched both sides together. that way your material laps over the zipper on both sides without any gaps or overlap.

The overlap is a must for protecting the sail in foul weather or when not in use. The side by side would let rain and dampness in. His choice was for the better.

Nice job Sam! I built a sail cover for my 37' in October, and then took it apart , flipped it over and made a stackpack in December. All sewing was done in the cabin of the boat, with a 1958 Singer, and all with a freshly shredded shoulder put back together with a titanium plate and 10 screws on the clavicle. I am more traumatized by the sewing project than the shoulder injury🤪 What a huge project. ... You've got a nice workshop and sewing machine!

You mentioned in a recent video that you used carbon fibre on the strengthening where your stays that support the mast terminate at deck level. I did see an interesting video clip of the complete construction of a plywood hull - from scratch, covered by fibreglass. Would it be worth using carbon fibre matting instead of the usual glass mat? I imagine that carbon fibre weave would be lighter and stronger (less prone to impact cracking?) than the usual glass mat, but then what do I (as a retired Chartered Accountant) really know?

Sam do you have to use some sort of weather resistant thread in your sewing machine?
@samholmessailing

@@samholmessailing not sure if this would help, but have you considered a waterproof seam sealer like the stuff that's used for tents? That could help extend the life of the thread.
