I am in my seventy seventh year and have known this piece since I was about twelve or so. It is still as wonderful and fresh as the first time I heard it . I have tears in my eyes , of joy not sadness, listening to the wonderful rendition by Maxim Vengerov.. Many, many thanks for posting VIOLONISTUL..

Camille Saint-Saëns wrote this piece nearly 160 years ago and had dedicated it to Spanish violin virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate. It was premiered on April 4, 1867 at the Champs-Élysées by the dedicatee and the composer on the podium.

@@cakebitch321 -- It could be the difference in recording techniques, but Vengerov's version seems to me to be crisper, cleaner. Heifetz sounds a little muddy to me. Sorry to say, not as precise somehow. Vengerov's recording is extraordinary, in my opinion. I would not criticize Heifetz, ever. My teacher used to tell students that each performance is unique to the player and should not be compared to any other. So, I'll just say that I prefer Vengerov's.

I play the violin, and this really is an exquisite performance, in the fact that the fast passages really are very clean, and in the slower ones his intonation is absolutely spot on, giving a satisfying ring to it, plus I really do like his attacks, as they are very clean and he can show a lot of different emotions in just that split second between bow pressure and note. I think he does a fantastic job with this, showing both complete technical command of the violin and that he really went all the way musically with it. I do not have a problem with any note in it, and really don't see how anyone could not love it.

Saint-Sans is an outstanding composer and Vengerov is a brilliant performer. They both did their best to make me cry every time I'm listening to this very Rondo-Capriccioso.

I admire Vengerov's accuracy comparable with Perlman mixed with feeling and deep soul of Spivakov and other great Russian interprets. It doesn't work all times but in this particular case it was perfectly balanced combination.

What more can be said? It an emotional experience to hear his interpretation of my favourite violin solo. Also I'm grateful to Saint-Saens for giving this masterpiece to the world. I read he wrote the piece for Pablo Sarasate.

@violonistchris what do you mean by that? Maxim has 2 interpreted piece from Saint-Saens 1. Saint-Saëns "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso" (this studio recording that I post - audio only) and 2. watch?v=wukjTEI3J74&feature=related (check the link, live. or see related videos) This 2 videos are different! And are the only. Maybe your country has restriction (just a guessing..) Reply if you have any problems.

2:37 : I think he is NOT doing the up staccato, which is fine if he doesn't have a good staccato (so did Oistrakh), but WHY THE HELL DOES HE HAVE TO PLAY THAT FAST??? Otherwise, UNBELIEVABLY FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE!!!
