Who would have thought that this would sound so good on this organ? Today - September 6, 2020 - Daniel Roth played this same piece before the 11am mass. I was sitting in the nave; the sound was clear and the polyphony came through effortlessly. Those below who comment on CC's organ not being suited to polyphony should remember that (a) half of St Sulpice organ is by Cliquot, (c) what CC praised most was sound clarity and roundness. A few years ago, Winfried Bönig came to St Sulpice to give a concert. Magically, as registered by him, the St Sulpice organ sounded like a North German instrument. This phenomenal organ is is capable of many wonders under the right fingers and toes.

I was blessed enough to have learned from Daniel Roth and put my fingers and feet on this beautiful instrument. A grandiose masterpiece

Wonderful indeed. This organ (and organist) is special

qui aurait cru qu'un tel répertoire sonnerait avec cette classe sur cet orgue?! Cavaillé Coll est décidément encore plus génial qu'on le pense...

Une interprétation très majestueuse et ample ! Merci Mr.Roth!!!

I just want to stand up and applaud after that performance. Artistry in composer, organist and organ builder.

Beautiful ❤️ Forget any considerations of "authenticity" (whatever that means). I'm sure there are plenty of "authentic" performances on KZfaq. But this is Saint-Sulpice, and Daniel Roth... just let the performance carry you away. Roth clearly understands this music, and it sounds gorgeous played on this instrument he knows so well.

I love the informality of the Organ Loft
@peteacher528 жыл бұрын
+drnickyp This is possible because of the generous personality of Maitre Roth. They're not all as accommodating as he, sometimes because of church authority rules and sometimes the organist does not feel relaxed with a close group of people moving around shuffling for position and even using flash cameras. Total respect to M. Roth for allowing people up to the loft.

Colin Gantiglew Even then, you apparently need to get security clearance from the French Government before you can go into the organ loft at San Sulpice.

Definitely one of the few if not only instrument where you simply chat while playing

Seriously, whoever says that Baroque music can’t be played on a reasonably well-equipped French romantic instrument is either lying or dense. Roth’s registration and articulation here make the music shine, even though it’s nowhere near an “authentic” organ for the piece.

Was sagt Daniel Roth am Anfang? "Das erinnert uns an...?"
@MagisterPerotin6 жыл бұрын

One of my very favorite organists and organs--but not remotely authentic in almost any respect. Very nice nonetheless.

It's an authentic Cavaille-Coll.

Baroque music sounds so much better on Cavaillé-Coll organs.
@karlrovey65807 жыл бұрын
John Smith It is much more difficult to get clarity in all the voices. It isn't very authentic, but for those who know what they are doing, the results are pretty good. Cavaille Coll didn't design his organs for polyphony.

yeah...... NO! I mean it sounds fine, but certainly not BETTER.
@Doeff85 жыл бұрын
That is not a truth in itself. Actually, the organs were made to enable more possibilities than playing Baroque.... I for myself think that this piece of my country fellow Sweelinck is at its best in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam or in the Sint Janskathedraal in Den Bosch. Those organs are typically best suited for Baroque.

I too love the grand organ but this playing Sweelinck Chromatic was dreadful. Was it a dearth or was the composer drunk?

Although I greatly admire Roth's skills, ACC-Organs are not the first choice for Sweelinck's compositions.

I too greatly admire Mr. Ruth's skills, and am grateful that he chooses to play works that may or may not be first choices for a given instrument, but are glorious none the less. I respect anyone who can adapt themself and their instrument to a wide variety of music, and make it a truly enjoyable experience for the rest of us. Thank you Mr. Roth, and also everyone involved in making these wonderful videos. They will be a great resource for the many generations of organists to come!

Une interprétation très froide et automatique!
@PierreFrancoisDUBATTENTI6 жыл бұрын
je n'ai accepté de publier votre commentaire que pour le plaisir de lire les réponses des internautes sur l'infinie souplesse de cette interprétation... on va voir !
@williamfossardo60525 жыл бұрын
