Stilwater is one of the greatest maps ever created. There’s so much variety in districts, enterable buildings and unique architecture with a beautiful colour palette.

I love Stilwater, and I learned a lot about its development history from helping out on this video. Super interesting stuff. Thank you for letting me participate in this!

Badger Goodger is the equivalent of Morgan Freeman when it comes to narating GTA/SaintsRow videos.

it's cool to see the saints row and gta community collaborating very often these days! there is no saints row vs gta, we're just a fan of open world crime games that are made well

My favorite part of Stilwater is it did a really good job of having a city that felt like it had history. Sunnyvalle garden despite never getting a dedicated mission to it is arguably the most important district of Stilwater, it a part of town with a lot of important history, and a part me like how they never give it a big mission especially in the first game. Yes it's important to the structure of Stilwater throughout several decades due to the important influencers that rose from that part of the town, but at the end of the day you can still tell it's an undesirable part of town, and the fact King never looked back or tried to build it up not only tells you a lot about King, but also that these important landmarks don't really matter to anyone if it can't be used for power and money. The Saints row redevelopment plan hints at this further, where no one wants to prop up these poor areas until it can be used as a symbol of power against the saints. It really did a great job of making you feel like you're in a city and not just a sandbox for your carnage.

Many people still don't understand that the OG crew that made SR1 and SR2 left the company when SR3 was made, hence why the newer games look nothing like the old ones.

When you compare Stilwater with Steelport you can really notice just how oppressive and soulless Steelport is. It feels like it's just a one giant factory, its skies are polluted, its greenery feels fake. Hell, it doesn't have a University for fuck's sake. What I'm trying to say is that Stilwater is one of the most diverse maps ever in gaming. You never feel like every district is the same and there's always something new to find. Hell, I've been playing SR2 for 6 years and only last week I've found out that the strip club and the bar from cutscenes are visitable by the player.

I always knew when I was much younger running around this city listening to karma chameleon that this game was special

Remaking Saints Row 1 from the Ground Up, & the Cut Content Restored would have been the next best thing.

All these years later, I still can't believe the working drawbridge wasn't carried over to Saints Row 2!

Saint’s Row 2’s Stillwater is still my favourite open world location.

I’ll never understand how so much care, detail and love went into the creation of Stilwater in SR1 and especially SR2 only to replace it with Steelport in 3 and 4; the most lifeless, bland and uninteresting open world map I’ve ever played in.

Stilwater and Liberty City are my two favorite open world cityscapes in gaming. So recognizable, and memorable in both cases.

sometimes I just take a car and drive as slowly as possible so i can enjoy the city and the pedestrians, sometimes I'll just park it and see how a pedestrian fight pans out

17:34 I have a scratched copy of Saints row 1, and I can confirm this, whenever I was driving too fast around that area, my car would disappear, and got stuck floating in the air like for 2 or 3 seconds, so this is very real haha

Alongside its sister city by the western side of the island: Steelport. Where Stilwater was founded on some shore that won’t get massive marine trade, Steelport had it better when it industrialized and actually had inner access to its neighboring coastal cities, it had massive access to trade

Stilwater is such a masterpiece. God I hope Volition built Santo Ileso with the same principles they used to make Stilwater so special.

Stilwater is one of the most varied and dynamic cities that can be found in a game.

Saints Row 2 actually reintroduces the gated community in the Barrio - more homes are added to the road and a gate is placed at the entrance.

Man when I heard only 6% was cut from SR1 it made me remember how in SR3 they wanted to cut so much content from it

It's a coincidence you uploaded this video today. It was only this morning I was looking through Stilwater concept art. With how much they added to Saints Row 2's map, I would have loved to have seen an even bigger expansion of Stilwater for a third visit. Imagine more districts and islands added, along with more buildings to enter.

This definitely made for an awesome collaboration between you both, and was really interesting to see how the Stilwater map was developed through to the final game, along with that original area and the fact some of the 'cut' stuff made it into Saints Row 2, some really neat stuff overall😁👍👏

As rocky as the reveal for the new game was, I'm hoping they learned from the dullness of Steelport and took notes from Stilwater when designing Santo Ileso. It's too early to make any solid judgment, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But nevertheless I don't think any open world can top Saints Row 2's Stilwater simply based on how vast and unique every area of the city is

From what it seems from the original version they used the original saints row 1 map in saints row 2. Cool just to see volition reused there early assets. Just goes to show that volition was genius at that time unlike now. Helmers trailer would have made more sense in sr2 since they brought back the trailer park instead of helmers being in the downtown district.

Jeez i'm jealous how much beta footage and information there is on stilwater's map and even the developers commenting on map design, compare this to the scraps of information we get about betas of gta games. These guys celebrate their games, rather than be secretive like rockstar is.

I began playing Saints Row since the third game, but I eventually tried the second one. I was amazed by the level of detail of the city, everywhere you look is brimming with detail. Just spectacular, hopefully it gets ported to Source 2 "Sandbox" just to leisurely enjoy Stilwater.

I always felt the sr1 map was restricted compared to the sr2. Especially now after replaying the series. The area where purgatory is is completely walled off in sections almost as if arbitrary walls were put up. (Probably loading zones) ots just seemed like sr2 was more realized than sr1 could be
