As a huge BABYMETAL fan I am so proud of the girls and I'm sure their family and friends are even more proud of not only their success but their humility. They are a credit to their families, their school and their Country.

Great reaction, I really enjoyed everything you had to say. So going in blind or forewarned .... there are one or two occasions (like this) where a little bit of context helps - but just the bare bones. Generally I prefer you to go in blind and to be surprised. So I would say it depends ... Well done spotting Yui and Moa, I wasn't sure you had (Moa was particularly hard to recognise as she didn't have her usual big smile). Sakura Gakuin was not a 'trade school' as such, but in many ways that was exactly what it was. It was an Idol group set up by Amuse to teach, coach and train about a dozen at a time of the most talented girls (aged 10 to 15) on their books in all aspects of entertainment - singing, dancing, acting, modelling, TV production and presentation, writing , stage management etc with a view to their deciding what they liked best, what they were best at and to choose how they might begin or continue their careers when they reached school leaving age (15 in Japan) and "graduated". SG had the school theme to fit in with that aim. It was more of a weekend thing - all the girls still went to their own regular schools during the week. At this time Su was the only 15 year old and was the only one graduating, but for the last year she was the school council president and like a big sister to all the other girls, looking after them, helping to guide them all and so on, so she was very much loved and all the girls knew they would miss her a lot after she was gone. One other girl (the one crying hard at the back) had decided to leave SG early as the commute from Hiroshima every week was hard on her and she had an offer for work (I think) as a model in Hiroshima that she had decided to accept. I believe she was the only member of SG who left early and never had a "graduation" of her own. This was March 2013 - the end of the 2012 school year. They had nearly all been together since 2010 (3 girls had graduated the year before and other younger girls had joined in their places). BABYMETAL was a sub-unit of SG from October 2010. Against all the odds they were proving to be a success in their own right, so when Su graduated BABYMETAL split from SG with her. Yui and Moa had agreed to continue with BABYMETAL, but they were still members of and working with SG simultaneously for another 2 years until they also graduated in 2015.

Yep, Mariri Sugimoto was the one the graduated early. If I remember correctly she had just transferred in that year. She was a big fan of Su and they were good friends. I also heard she accepted a modeling job which made it impossible to stay in SG. It's too bad (for us) because she is kind adorkable like Su and would have fit in great, lol. She really loved SG so it was definitely a hard decision.

Su and Mariri many times made the commute from Hiroshima together. I think Mariri made her decision to graduate because she would have to go alone all the time to Tokyo.

Not a song I expected to see on the channel, but I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. Sakura Gakuin was an idol-group, active between 2010 and 2021, which had a school theme. So not a real school in that sense, though they did get to practice a lot of things besides singing and dancing, like acting, tv-production, stage plays and such. When the girls reached a certain age they would "graduate" and new members would "transfer in". These yearly graduation shows were always tear-filled events. As for going into reactions blind or not, I'd say that for something like this, a basic grasp of the concept is probably a good thing. Not too many details though, that would spoil the fun. For more general videos however, a completely blind reaction is fine.

Theres a bunch of Idol groups in Japan, but I think Sakura Gakuin was definitely the best all rounded training bootcamp for these girls. If you wonder why Su, Yui, and Moa can stand in front of stages of thousands with such ease and confidence... This is a big reason why. Yeah, you hear alot of people say how they are manufactured, but this is a tough manufacturing process, the girls go to real school and then go through training in singing, dancing, performance, etc. And their product is top class. Even Su's voice had a wee bit of crack to it at some points....If anyone could've broken Su, Nene would've done it. 😁🤘🦊🤘

Fun reaction! Glad you were able to recognize Moa and Yu - wasn't sure when you were saying that girl is starting to cry if you realized it was Moa or not. Now if you really want to see Moa break down and cry search you tube for "Moa's speech at Su's graduation from Sakura Gakuin" (just have a tissue box handy while you watch it). Little mistaken context - Sakura Gakuin was actually for girls ages 10-15, basically covering their age 11 through age 15 school years. They faced mandatory graduation upon completing their age 15 school year. It was basically like an ultra selective performing arts junior high school. Babymetal actually began while they were in Sakura Gakuin - in addition to performing all together as Sakura Gakuin, they would also perform in themed sub-units of 2-4 girls, of which Babymetal was the massive break out hit. With Su facing mandatory graduation, Amuse had probably already decided to spin Babymetal off as an independent act still staring Su, but its not clear if the girls knew that yet at this point - Moa and Yui certainly seemed like they thought Su was leaving and they would no longer perform together (again, if you watch Moa's speech it is very clear that's what she thought), probably assuming Babymetal would either end or Su's roll would be recast. BTW - Sakura Gakuin translates as "Cherry Blossom Academy"

Su, Yui and Moa absolutely knew that BABYMETAL would continue after Su graduated from Sakura Gakuin at the end of March in 2013. BABYMETAL had already held their 'Legend Z' concert on February 1st, 2013, where BABYMETAL were "reborn" as an independent group. Both Yui and Moa posted diary/blog entries after 'Legend Z', but before Su's graduation, where they talked about being asked if they wanted to continue in BABYMETAL after Su graduated from SG. Yui decided "Yes!" right away, while Moa took a while to seriously think it over before she decided this was something she could fully commit to. Both Yui and Moa were just sad that they wouldn't have Su with them in Sakura Gakuin anymore.

I watched this along with the girls individual speeches...and it got a lot more tearful. Even with subtitles, a not so small man in his 50's who rarely cries, was a bit choked up. And as a note for you David, I learned a lot more working a full time job while in high school than I did when I was in class. Great review and I'm glad you enjoyed it as well.

As usual, Moa turned out to be one of the most emotional, super outgoing, and enthusiastic. You should watch her later goodbye speech to Su, she was crying uncontrollably, with super red and swollen eyes. 😭 Yui turned out to be more introverted and 'cool.' They also premiered 'Headbanger' at such an early stage, pretty awesome already. And their Mini Pati is fun to watch. Many of Sakura Gakuin's students have some kind of experience in performance, at school, they honed those skills even more. Their numerous performances are always fun to watch, and frankly, not that bad. From what I read, they kept closed relationship even nowadays, after so many years. It doesn't really matter much whether you watch 'Fresh' blindly or rewatch. kitsune up!

🌸 🏫 / 🎓 It sounded like you thought the group as a whole was ending after this performance. Sakura Gakuin didn't break up when Su graduated at the end of March 2013. It kept going with senior members graduating and new members "transferring in" until August 31, 2021. Yui and Moa graduated from the group at the end of March of 2015. 'My Graduation Toss' was written for Sakura Gakuin by Tomoko Kawasa (Tommy february6) and Shunsaku Okuda. They were the main creative force behind the group The Brilliant Green. The same pair also brought us 'Heart no Hoshi'. This is (in my opinion), the best Sakura Gakuin song of all time. Especially if you watch the "Rakusa Clan" version.

Wow. Pleasantly surprised to see this. The girl who you saw starting to fight back tears @7:29 is Moa. She breaks down a few times and Yui loses it at the end. I'll mark down most of the times I spotted Su's bandmates showing their love and sadness that this is Su's last performance in SG. @9:52 Moa again breaks down and almost drops to the floor on the right side of the stage. @10:14 as you spotted Moa again and I think the other girl is names Yuno? as well. Many of the girls were fighting tears here and there. And yup, you called it again. @14:48 or so Su starts to crack a little and you see her eyes start to shine from tearing up a bit, but as a true professional, she fights it and continues no problem. You can see the one girl behind her lose it more as well. @17:01 when the streamers explode you see Moa on the left side of the stage almost fall down again in tears(totally adorable though). @17:07 you see Yui for the first time no longer able to keep it together. She can't even hold the mic to her mouth properly. And @17:21 there is Yui some more on the right side of stage almost falling down in tears. And of course @17:44 Yui a total mess covering her mouth as she cries. Sorry if all this isn't interesting, but for fans, seeing Yui and Moa so emotional about Su brings tears and awwwwwwws to us. Su was very well loved by everyone there. 🤘🦊🤘

@@kitsuneneko2567 I don't take joy and I don't think many others do either seeing girls cry. But their tears aren't a bad thing. It just shows how close they all were. I think it is precious and heart warming. I mean if you force the girls to cry that is something else. I like this performance crying or no crying. I just was pointing out Yui and Moa and everyone's love for Su. Isn't one reason so many adore Moa is because she wears her heart on her sleeve? She is emotional, loving, caring, and silly. Yui is crazy professional and shy, and to see her breakdown just shows how much she loved SG with Su.

I am a seventy-year-old hard rock and heavy metal fan who unashamedly loves Sakura Gakuin. I find their music makes me feel good; and some of their songs are surprisingly heavy. BabyMetal actually began as a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin, and there is a BabyMetal song on each of the first three Sakura Gakuin albumns. If you really want to see the girls cry, you should seek out the Sakura Gakuin graduation farewell videos. The 2011 one has Su full-on crying as she says farewell to her former Keren Girls' bandmate Ayami Muto. Be forewarned though, these videos have been known to break even metal-hardened men; and they touched my cold, blackened heart.

You are right, Yui and Moa were there with Su, and it is not like they left it to join Babymetal, as Babymetal already existed, with the three of them. Sakura Gakin was not an official school, the girls still had to go to a regular school, but, it was school themed, and it also kind of worked as an "entertainement school", and also as an offical idol group, where the girls would learn about music and dance, and train to be artists. Amuse kind of looked for talents in it, so, after they graduated, they could go to work on more stuff from the company. Babymetal was a sub unit of Sakura Gakuin, since the begining, of both Sakura Gakuin and Babymetal, in 2010. The band started as one of Sakura Gakuin's "clubs", the heavy music club. All the girls of Sakura Gakuin were actually between 10-15 years old, Su in this performance being the oldest. Babymetal at that point had already done a couple of conserts on their own, with the Kami Band even playing a few soungs with them, and became independant when Su left Sakura Gakuin, so she could stay as Babymetal's singer. Usually they would just put another girl in a sub unit, in the place of the one that graduated, but it would not work with Babymetal, as Su, Yui and Moa were already integral parts of it. Yui and Moa continued on both Sakura Gakuin and Babymetal until they turned 15 and graduated from SG, staying then only in BM. Momoko, Babymetal new member, also came from Sakjura Gakuin, from a later generation. There are a lot more to say, but, i think for this video this expolains what you would need/watn to know. As for the score, i did not expected it to be this high, but had a feeling that even the song not being something that you would usually like, you would still give it a decent score due to the performance and to the fact that it is actually a very decent song lol

Great reaction! Sakura Gakuin was not Su's first group. She was in a duo with her older sister Himeka at Actors School Hiroshima when she was 7/8 years old. Then she was the youngest member of the JPop trio Karen Girls, formed to sing songs for the anime "Zettaii Karen Children". She was already an Idol to many of the younger girls, including Yui. THEN she became one of the founding members of Sakura Gakuin. One of the girls who graduated the year before is Ayaka Myoshi, who became a model and actress and is probably most known in the U.S. for her role as Ann in Netflix's "Alice in Borderland" series.

Great reaction Mr. Heretic. Loved your insights, and never heard SG being referred to as a trade school of sorts, which in honesty, is quite accurate! Of course, the girls do go to normal school outside of SG as well. To answer your initial question, I think for future reactions, it should be up to the fan base to decide to intentionally “spoil” any surprises by giving context to a video. In some cases, a full blind react may be better, and others, some context can be more entertaining (such as this one). Thanks DH, always enjoy your respectful insights! 🤘🦊

I absolutely prefer surprise reactions but sometimes context can really help to understand why a video was chosen to be reacted to. There's a fair bit of explaining as to the tears on stage and whatnot, i'm sure someone will do so (i'd give it a go but i'm useless at explaining things!). This one always makes me tear up as I often think of how they felt on that stage, at that time, saying goodbye to someone who was universally loved!

Excellent reaction, thanks! First, I never ever imagined watching and enjoying something like this before discovering BABYMETAL. But here I am and I have a huge respect for all these girls. I'm always impressed by their professionalism specially given their age. Not to mention that this is a formative group and these young ladies are technically rivals within the entertainment industry. But, as you perfectly mentioned, after three shool years together at this point, they became friends. If you pay attention, Moa looks devastated from the 20 seconds mark and Nene is unable to sing her solo part and did that speech thanking Suzuka, telling her that she loves her and hugging her instead. Yui has a rare concentration rictus all the time until she stopped singing and broke badly a few lines before the end of the song. I know this is not metal but it's metal in the sense that we have a lot to learn from them. See you next time!

Finally deep in the Foxhole you are. About your question i think a little bit of info as an intro is ok, going full on blind with BM stuff is sometimes fun but there's certain risk, but when you start to know them more and more isn't something really necessary. What really bothers me is you're getting BM cover bands/groups or songs repeated to react instead of these SG clips or more BM stuff with the girls showing on interviews and variety shows, ik some of them are heavily blocked but some are safe like this one. Anyway thanks for sharing this David, now that MomoMetal is part of the group i guess it's fair to see her too when she was an SG alumni.💮❤

You can have context of who/what something is and still be in for surprises, they're really two different things. A lot of times (like this) it makes more sense to know who some of these pre-projects are. BTW this wasn't Su's starting point per say, but was the larger group that Babymetal was a sub-group (as an experiment) before breaking off into it's own thing. But she was in other idol projects before this. Also the context of this graduation is pretty different from most bands breaking up because they age out in the youth-focused idol industry, so not like regular bands the rest of us are in that you don't 'age out' of and graduate from per say.

Get stright to the point ! Blind is better and what i prefer, but this is something diffrent about this and to avoid confustion and a million and one questions the context was needed.. well spoted by you the 3 of them together 👍you already being told this was not a real school but a way for amuse to take their best and brightest talent and get them ready for entertainment industry. They all had to go to real school as well . As a BabyMetal fan most of us ended up here sooner our later or even deeper in the foxhole. This was not Su's first group. But she was a founder member and second class president. Watch the speeches saying their goodbyes to Su, especially Moa's. i think everyone got at least a lump in the throat,( even you ) lot of us tears . Mori-Sensi "teacher" speech was very telling. i think it came from the heart and give an insight into Su's character. I think this show made us all fall in love with not just Su , Moa and Yui but also the other girls these girls even at this age where hard working and talented young ladies on their way to being a term used by Sakura Gakuin "Super Ladies " The end product of helping to nurture young talent and helping them to get ready for the entertainment industry . So they dont end up like a lot of Western young stars we constantly see burn out . Great reaction really enjoyed and 8 and half good score, but it would have been ten if you watched the speeches as you would of typed 10 by mistake, not been able to see properly through your tears 😭🤣 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Sakura Gakuin was some kind of educational Idol group by Amuse. In these kind of groups Amuse forms their artists. It was representing Japanese middle school wchich means age 11-14 year old girls. Once they left middle school they were replaced by younger ones. This idol group had sup groups. One was the group for heavy music which became so successful within the 2 years where Su was there. Amuse took it out of Sakura Gakuin and produced their first album. That´s where Babymetal comes from. I don´t know if anybody else but their producer Koba ever expeted them to be successful. Koba probably allways wanted to produce metal but wasn´t allowed to by his bosses. So he tried something at a place where it doesn´t matter so much if it would fail. But it became a huge success from the first song. This was Su´s good bye song for Sakura Gakuin. And I don´t know if i was already sure at that time if Babymetal would be continued.

It's not a real school. It's a school themed idol group for girls between 10 and 15 years old. When they hit 15 they age out of the group and "graduate". Some girls go on to other groups, and some retire from the idol scene.

I'm for 90% - 100% blind reactions. 7:38 That was Moametal. Babymetal started out as a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin. SG is a school themed group, with clubs, aka "sub-units." BM was the Heavy Music club. There's a whole other world with BM/SG reactions, including their introduction in SG. There's more I can say about SG/BM reactions, but that would go against my opening comment.

What the...?! David is watching Sakura Gakuin? That's so unexpected...like his reaction to Babymetal. Ha ha ha! Oh man, I'm almost afraid to watch it. But I'm a fan of David, and of course will watch it. David, it is a double edged sword. I think if you've never listened to a band that's outside of your comfort zone or what you normally listen/react to, some context does help. In the case of this particular song, context is important because you won't understand that this isn't just the last song Su-chan performed with Sakura Gakuin, it's a completion of her tenure with SG and a farewell to her fellow sisters she has spent so much time with. Also, she as student council president, that also puts into context the amount of leadership and work she put into her own position so she can lead properly. So like I said, in the case of THIS video, context is very important because it is part of a story that's been written over the course of 3 years. It's not like just any song an artist releases because that was meant to be experienced out of context as the story is self contained within the song. You are listening to this song because it's linked to Babymetal. But in the sense of another band, I say knowing nothing of the band is best. And then learning more about them after your first view would be best imho. 8-) Just the fact that the girls were between 10 and 15 years old, and crying in this last song together with their beloved student council president, in my book, that's an automatic pass. Alot of these girls lived in the dorms together, so they spend more time together than most bands. 8-))) I think no one telling you that Moa and Yui were in this, was just a test. Oh, I don't now if anyone's mentioned this to you, but all of the girls still attend their regular schools while practicing at Amuse every day and weekends. There are a few girls who still take up additional extracurricular activities at their schools too, like learning english, playing an instrument, etc. I honestly thought you weren't going to like it too. But you're not a sadist. It's a technical thing and you were spot on that the girls are still able to perform even through the tears. One motto that was handed down from the first student council president was to always "Smile your best" through injuries and emotions. Every year, the final concert in March is the most emotional one for the girls. It's the same every year as the younger girls grow up to be the seniors and then graduate out. Even the principal and their homeroom teacher regards this time as their most saddest times in SG. Many of the staff also get emotional during this concert. And of course, the audience and us fans. Even to this day, it still affects alot of us. Su-chan was the leader, she had to lead. She had to be strong and encouraging to her fellow sisters. If you watch it again, you'l see her giving encouraging looks to the other girls. Just watch all of their expressions and looks to each other, you'll already see their bonds. Yes, no lipsyncing in almost all of the songs when all 12 girls are singing together. When the subunits sing, most of those are lip synced. In the japanese industry, it's kind of a standard and the fans don't mind because they are still having a good time. And all of the music will always be on a track except for a few parts of the traditional graduation song in the later years where the beginning piano part is live. To close, I am REALLY glad you enjoyed it. Watching Sakura Gakuin is more about seeing the girls perform and their relationships with each other. Almost all of their songs are very positive and joyful and is a welcome listen on my playlist. It especially helps when I'm dealing with idiot drivers on the road during my commute. Keep up the great work!

If you do it might be fun to see how many more times you can spot Yui and/or Moa. Worth noting that at this time Sue was also the Class President, so she was already getting practice in the leadership role.

I'm not on you with your rant xD I'm ok with trade schools, but basic knowledge it's good to have. Like with the geometry example, you might need to know the surface of something when you buy tiles and stuff like that. ANd to avoid getting scammed by sellers, because you don't know how to calculate the surface of some different shapes! You are partially right, this is a kind of a trade school, for girls aged 10-15, but the girls were still attending regular school at the same time! This was the 3rd year SG was formed, so some girls were together 3 years, some other 2, and a few just 1 year! About spoilers, I wish they hadn't tell you about the crying! It was fine to give you context about being it her last show, but nothing more! Just after this song ended, the girls all did a speech toward Su, and most of them completely broke on tears, expecially MOA! Nice score, then we should suggest you some more Sakura Gakuin ahahahah

It takes too much of your attention away from the actual song/performance. I understand no spoilers but you need to be given at least the basic's so you can concentrate more on the song, especially on a new group. That being said, keep up the good work 🤙

Nice reaction. From what I've been told Yui and Moa didn't know if Babymetal would continue after Su graduated. An extra reason for them crying. But also, from what I've been told Su had already decided to stay with Babymetal even after graduating. And heck why not? The group was formed around her to begin with. Another reason why I say the foxhole is deep and full of surprises

I agree somewhat with your trade school rant, but also in high school it's impossible to say what you're going to want to do with the rest of your life, so things like biology and algebra make sense as a a way to make sure you have the skills to be able later on to change your mind. Without the skills you learn from general courses you may be completely unprepared to make a change later on if you decide that you don't want to work on fenders for the rest of your life. Not only this but without an appreciation for reading you will almost certainly not pass that on to your children. I am also a big advocate for the idea that Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams will be an investment in your adult life whoever you are and the idea of a school not teaching you to enjoy good literature is not something I will concede. I think that if you go to a trade school you should still get an education in books too. I am a big advocate that the purpose of an education is to get you ready to be an adult first and second to prepare you to make a living. Anyway that's my rant. Thanks. Great reaction as always, you made me think!

You're asking if you, as a reactor, should have a genuine reaction for the first time? weird question...of course you don't want spoilers. its like a movie reviewer going in with heavy spoilers beforehand...naa...best to be surprised. you can get filled in on the whole high lore of it afterwards. also, SG...hmm..going down that rabbit hole. Cute and catchy but not making the playlist for me. guilty watch...its Japan. Anyhow, I would say just a very minimal overview..."hey, this is BMs origins basically here and Su's last time with the group" would have been all you need to know. Anyhow, yeah, Young Suzuka Nakamoto, unsure what to do after this. Sadly we never heard anything else from her after this. the speech the girls gave after this song is amusing..should hit that sadist bone should you care to check it out. watching them break down...especially the last one...heh.

Receive information or go in blind? Some videos, you just have to go in blind. Best example is "when you are overqualified for the job". Some other videos, limited information is useful so you understand the basic concept. Too much information is always bad. If you want just one answer, always go in blind. You were given a lot of information about this video. However, several details you say are not quite accurate. Others already corrected that so all I say is this: Giving you information did not help. If you had known how to invest at the age of 18, you'd be set for life? Maybe you would not have had to work ever again? That's exactly why school does not teach investment!

The issue for me David, is not black and white, as you portray. Giving all the information about the music video you are going to watch or none at all, is not realistic. It would be pointless you watching a video knowing every scene, easter egg, surprise appearance from a celebrity etc. I believe, people don't want the other extreme either. You occasionally go on misplaced rants or opinions because you did not receive any context. I particularly feel for your Silver and Gold tear members when this happens, with one of their prioritised requests. For me, you should request only context information. Using this video as an example, you need to know that Sakura Gakuin, is a Japanese idol concept girl group. When a girl reaches 15 years old, she graduates out of the group and new younger members join. Thats it. I had hoped this video would include the part when the girls say goodbye to Su. The proud father feeling washes over me when I watch that video, others have mentioned it in the comments, and I blub as much as the girls in this video. Despite Sakura Gakuin being the genesis of BabyMetal and I believe all the Avengers were former members plus some of the dancers when it was not known if Yui was to return, I have never really taken to it.
@THEDavidHeretic

I agree with everything you said, the only problem is people have different opinions and ideas as to what "giving context" is, and more to the point, how far "giving context" should go. Some people will give me a rough outline, while others will get carried away and give all of the fine details. People get super excited and passionate about their favorite bands and artists, and sometimes they can get carried away and give a bunch of spoilers without realizing what they have done. Then again, there are also those couple of d-bags who intentionally give all of the spoilers and ruin every potential surprise just so they can ruin a potentially entertaining reaction. It's a tough call.

@@THEDavidHeretic I see your challenge. Imagine intentionally describing everything, so it spoils your chance of making a good reaction and review? Bizarre! I get people getting carried away though. Hoping you give a great, informed summary of their favourite music video by accidentally giving too much context. I wonder if you could gauge the request information by how long the contextual information is? If you see long explanations, don't read it? What a conundrum for you.
