It's probably just because the main character isn't honest with her feelings. Side characters tend to be me honest with each other than the main so they are able to flirt more

@@ZrusoEruptionwell both Urushi and Ayumu have made it clear they do like each other. But him not confessing until he can beat her in a shog match makes it seem this way. Sakura and Takeru don't have anything like this.

@DragonStar524 that's basically what I meant. The authors have this issue where they think that if the male lead and female lead get together too early, then it'll get boring, so they always find a way to stall the actual romance

@@ZrusoEruption Nah, Urushi arguable flirts and comes on to Ayumu more than the reverse. They're totally honest with each other, but they're not gonna do anything. The issue is the premise of the series makes their relationship stall a lot, while the side romance can flow a lot more naturally.
