📜 History of Saladin & the 3rd Crusade: Siege of Jerusalem - A king does not kill kings. After the battle at Hattin, Saladin had dealt a grievous blow to the Crusader states. Important figures were captured, and the majority of Guy's forces had been decimated at the Horns of Hattin. But there was another place that was vital for Saladin to take to keep his uneasy alliance strong. Jerusalem, a city of holy sites for the Abrahamic faiths, had been occupied for 80 years. Now it was time to take it back.

@Khalil G the rules if Islam are as followed Do not kill any child, any woman, or any elder or sick person. 2. Do not practice treachery or mutilation. 3. Do not uproot or burn palms or cut down fruitful trees. 4. Do not slaughter a sheep or a cow or a camel, except for food. 5. If one fights his brother, [he must] avoid striking the face, for God created him in the image of Adam. 6. Do not kill the monks in monasteries, and do not kill those sitting in places of worship. 7. Do not destroy the villages and towns, do not spoil the cultivated fields and gardens, and do not slaughter the cattle. ) 8. Do not wish for an encounter with the enemy; pray to God to grant you security; but when you [are forced to] encounter them, exercise patience 9. No one may punish with fire except the Lord of Fire. 10. Accustom yourselves to do good if people do good, and to not do wrong even if they commit evil. Too bad today's pathetic leaders don't follow them :(

There're multiple interpretations on why Saladin gave Raynald option between convert to Islam or die, 3 I can find: - Saladin knew Raynald would refuse anyway so the only thing he want was Raynald's death. - Saladin try to be compassionate by offering convertion to Islam since that would clean Raynald's soul from every sins he committed previously, if he refuse than the man was too dangerous to live. - Saladin want to kill Raynald purely for political reason, strengthened himself and weaken both domestic and foreign oppositions.

reynald was a murderer who killed many muslims, he was not killed for just politics. As for the question of conversion, its an Islamic custom to allow one last chance to foes, many great foes in Islamic history became some of its greatist leaders. Umar was one of the most dangerous enemies of the muslims before converting, he even drew a sword intending to kill the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), umar later led the muslims and was the one to take jerusalem for the muslims personally without bloodshed. Khalid ibn waleed is one of the greatest generals in the world, he never lost a battle including the ones he led against the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his army nearly killed the Prophet (SAW) in one battle. Khalid later went on to be known as the "sword of ALLAH (SWT)" and he defeated superior roman and persian forces multiple times. in essence, reynald sucked but everybody deserves a chance to repent to their maker.

In the Dante's Inferno movie, Dante meets Saladin in Limbo and Saladin, not speaking, just stares at Dante, which gives Dante flashbacks of all the cruelty he unleashed as a Crusader under the delusion that, since a priest promised all of his future sins were absolved by joining the crusade, he could basically do whatever he wanted. Saladin's judgmental eyes freaked Dante out so much that he decided to move on to the second circle rather than stay in the relatively safe Limbo.
