Man I don't know if I would say the MCU was faithful to the comics. I find they often convert the protagonists and storylines into standard action movie heroes and tropes, removing their complexity and uniqueness in the process. I think BTAS comparatively was just trying to tell Batman stories with their own spin, but not altering the franchise in any unrecognizable way.

I couldn't agree with you more. The Marvel execs don't care about telling good stories, nor do they care about developing their characters. Quite the contrary, all they care about is to tie all their movies together into a serialized TV show on the big screen, and to continue shitting more and more movies until people will get tired of it. In short, the MCU movies are nothing but utter trash.

Speaking of which, the flashback sequence for Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker is based on two famous story arcs from the comics: The Killing Joke and Death in the Family.

Batman: The Animated Series succeded where the films failed: creating their own stories while respecting the source materials, something that the films seem to forget on purpose.

I'm disappointed that while Maggin's Batman story "The Cape and Cowl Deathtrap" was adapted for the series, none of his Superman stories were ever used for the Superman animated series, which is a shame as some of his stories are fantastic Superman stories. Though, I might be being biased here since Elliot S! Maggin is my favorite Superman writer.

"Feat of Clay": Matt Hagen becoming Clayface as a cure for disfigurement comes from Preston Payne in Detective 478, and Batman throws a kick at Clayface that was taken from Detective 479 (page 3, panel 1).

The Two-Face episode is also very similar to The Eye of the Beholder. They both showed a very dark backstory of Harvey Dent before the scarring.

I think a trilogy of high-budget animated films that adapt those comics would be a dream come true, if it emulated the artwork. Same thing for the similar Green Lantern Arc from Emerald Twilight to Zero Hour, A Crisis In Time.

Some have said the episode Bane from Batman the animated series and Traction from The Batman were adaptations of Knightfall. When really those episodes aren't adaptations of Knightfall rather they just take influence from the story. There's a difference between adapting and taking influence.

Fun fact The "dreams of darkness" episode can also be seem as the inspiration for the Scarecrow scenes in the Arkham Asylum games, specially since Batman spends most of the episode dealing with the fear toxin hallucinations and his battle with Scarecrow takes place in the swears, below the Asylum.

I'd say Two-Face part 1 and 2 was more of an adaptation of Eye of The Beholder. In the episode and the comic, Harvey already had inner demons that formed into a second personality he was trying to suppress. At the same time, there was a case against someone that ended in an unfair result, in the show it was Rupert Thorne's men being let go and in the comic it was a serial killer being found innocent by the Jury.

"Appointment in Crime alley" also have some elements from the story, Batman War Crime (written by Paul Dini and with the art by Alex Ross), since both stories the plot have Batman dealing with a corrupt businessman (in the comics is Randall Winters while in the episode is Rolland Dagget) who wants to replace a neighborhood in Gotham (in the comic is Bayside while in the episode is Crime Alley), claming that the place is full of violence and crime and the only way to fix it is by tearing down and replace for something new, caring nothing for the people who live there. Both stories have a simillar message, about Batman recognizing that, while his victories might not always be completed, it's the smalls ones (in the comics is inspiring a kid from give up a life of crime and in the episode is saving Leslie and the people who live in Crime Alley) that encourage him to keep fighting for a better Gotham.

Volume 4 of Batman TAS is not a separate show it's just the show was cancelled in 95 and brought back on a different network and with new animation. I'm personally getting pretty tired of people claiming them as separate shows. If season 3 of Young Justice can be considered a new season of Young Justice despite that it was cancelled and keep in mind the gap was longer than BTAS's gap and that season 3 of Young Justice was produced on a different network than seasons 1 and 2 I personally don't see how this should be any different.
@SalazarKnight
@SalazarKnight 3 жыл бұрын
I get the feeling, but just because it's the same continuity and the same universe, doesn't mean it was produced by the same people or under the same standards. That makes a huge difference to me. Enough to separate them as two different series from a production standpoint, at least. Also, the name was clearly different. Young Justice never changed name, while BTAS =/= TNBA.

Batman's attitude has completely changed in the two shows also, becoming a less complete character. In BTAS he is strong heroic, intimidating, deep, but also kind, warm, caring and can be capable of humour. In TNBA he is brutal, cold and unfriendly at pretty much all times, almost robotic. His soothing Bruce voice is no longer present, he talks like Batman only, even as Bruce, to whoever he is talking to.

I don’t agree with your opening. Many adaptations are successful and are very different than the comics. See Batman 89 and MCU Spider-Man as two huge examples, but even things like The Dark Knight Trilogy have many aspects of the character they don’t adapt well from the comics.

@@22Gugoo22 it takes inspiration from the comics, but there are issues with how stuff is adapted. Batman isn’t obsessive enough, he is only Batman for less than 3 years, his no kill rule isn’t handled well (it really hasn’t been handled well in any live action film). At the end of all three films a villain dies, two of which because of Batman, the other Batman could have said. Batman also is perfectly fine with Catwoman killing Bane. They are good movies, but there are issues with them as adaptations of the comics
