Today we are visiting Salem, MA where back in the 1600's the famous Salem Witch Trials happened and the town of Salem wanted to forget about these horrible events... fast forward to the year 2019 and Salem has become of the most popular destinations for Witchcraft and the paranormal! All of this wouldn't have become possible if it wasn't for a TV Show called Bewitched that filmed 8 episodes in the year 1970. Learn more by watching this episode!

It's true; I'm here now in Salem specifically because of Bewitched. The statue "controversy" never made sense to me- Salem embraced the kitschy witch stuff looooong before 2005. And you're right; in 1970, they LOVED the cast and crew being here, and they were mobbed at the Hawthorne Hotel. My guess is none of the protestors were actually living here at the time. Peter Alachi, a Salem resident, wrote several books about Bewitched in Salem. One of which interviews the mayor of Salem at the time, who said that he noticed the year after the Salem Bewitched episodes aired, he noticed an uptick in tourism, including from Japan and Germany (which had faaaar more witch trials than Salem did- around 90,000 prosecuted and 40,000 killed). The show put Salem (and Gloucester; they were there too at the Fisherman's Memorial and Hammond Castle) on the international map.

My favorite old TV show of all times... Bewitched and Darin #1, Dick York, never really cared for the second Darin 🤷🏻‍♀️

I live just outside Salem. It was the "witches" of Salem who complained about the statue. They said it was an insult because she was not a real witch, she only played on on TV. True story. Now it is the most photographed location in town.

I dont think they were really infront of that black witch house..they were infront if a green screen..but yea having said that, i love the show and im currently on the 7th season..just watched the first 4 episodes of it infact..lol

yes but one of the best Bewitched episodes that i like and enjoy is Season 5 episode 2 Samantha Goes South For a Spell (1968) it is when Samantha is send back in time to Old New Orleans of 1868 i hope that Bewitched Fans have the chance to watch it,

I want to see the spot where Serena turned Darrin into a statue. It was right on the water and I can't seem to find it on Google Maps. I want to see if there's a real Fisherman's Statue there like in the show.

This is so full of half truths, while Bewitched did help with tourism , it began immediately after the show aired, not in the 1980s. Salem was a tourist spot before the show, it had an amusement park, Salem willows. The show being filmed here wasn't spread word of mouth, it was well publicized. How do I know this? I was there

I've been there, stayed at the Hotel and would have enjoyed this if you didn't insist on shoving your face in the camera. Interested Salem not in you.
