I do not know how I missed this video- but this is honestly the "real talk" that we need to be having with all tech professionals. I always remind people that get versed now, but that there's lots to learn. I'm one of those "people-focused" techies, so so much of this resonated with me (including the fact that I'm diversifying my technical and professional acumen). Great vid!

I know I’m late and I agree with the prospects of the developer path (and/or technical admin). The only thing I disagree with is the idea that there are no older developers. While software engineering has been around for decades, it has only been widespread since the late 90’s. So developers will get old 🤷🏽‍♂️

Acknowledging everything in this video I have a 2 part question: 1. Is it worth diving into Salesforce as 20 year old with zero Salesforce knowledge? 2. What are your thoughts on fellow CRM competitor Hubspot? I’ve thought about going down the Hubspot admin route because there’s no where near as much competition compared to becoming a Salesforce admin.
@dvdkliu
@dvdkliu 2 жыл бұрын
For #1 check out my "Should you learn Salesforce in 2020" video. Not much has changed in 2021. For #2 I haven't seen much traction in Hubspot so far. It has been around a while so at this point I'm skeptical it'll go massive. This is a depressing video man. I have worked with so many different people who are and were developers and several of them wrote in ancient languages. I was surprised to find out that they were still in high demand. Once something becomes the king of the hill, like salesforce has become, it never really truly disappears. I still think that there are people. When the time comes that a new technology comes along that scares you into thinking that your career is over, remember that there are still Unix administrators, cobol developers,. And actually I found out from someone recently, that church I used to attend still uses Novell. I was surprised, but I was not shocked. One career that you didn’t mention David was sales management. I think with the 10 years experience that I have with getting requirements and learning the sales lingo, moving into a sales management role would be easy. I actually think that I could love into an Regional Sales Manager if I wanted to. That’s not interesting to me, but that is definitely an option.

@@dvdkliu thanks I am thinking of completing Google data analysis course that comes with a certificate as well as teach how to use tech like Tableau an R before I go into becoming a sales force developer. Would that help me with finding an entry level job an becoming a better salesforce developer by also getting that Google data analyst certificate.

No, those wouldn't help you become a Salesforce developer at all. Just get platform 1 dev and apply for jobs while trying to get platform dev 2. That is the most direct path

Bro don’t scare people first of all and grow up. If you are in tech field you gotta keep updating yourself every year, there’s no way anyone can escape. I have been watching you here and there scaring people, you yourself don’t know where you will be, whether you will be alive or not in 10 years

True words. Sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders you understand the need to keep up. This is mainly for those cruising along. If you're the type to keep learning then you don't have much to worry about

@@dvdkliu Right, but you should not portray your videos like it’s bad for people to join salesforce career. In most videos you show salesforce career are negatively, which should not be…every tech has its peak time until new tech rolls out, that’s a normal tech cycle and currently it’s salesforce era in CRM and it’s not going away anytime soon, it’s here to rule CRM and probably even stay forever who knows

I think KZfaq just promotes the gloom and doom videos I have. I have a lot of pro Salesforce videos that probably get lost in the algorithm. Also, I usually wait till the end of my videos to say the positive stuff, but most people don't get that far. My overall message really is that Salesforce is great as long as you plan ahead and take meaningful steps towards improving.

Amazing - No BS content. I really love it and it is helping me tremendously in guiding my career. So many other SF content creators are saying that Admin world is growing. David - thank you for validating what I felt in my gut.

What indicator, not generic information, but true metric, statistical evidence is there that Admin jobs are going away? My concern is we base our "facts" off of a logical thought process and not off of truth. All Salesforce roles are evolving because Salesforce is evolving as a platform. Why does someone need to lose because of that? Why do we have to draw a line and say your career path is shrinking and your a liar... why can't companies evolve and the professionals on those platforms evolve with it?

To paraphrase Steve Jobs - metrics are backwards looking. Predictions are forwards looking. You can't buy stocks just by looking at metrics. There has to be a deeper level of understanding that metrics don't capture. This video is based on my personal understanding of the industry. EDIT: just saw the comment thread on this. I have nothing against courses or anything like that. Not even trying to start a debate on admin vs dev vs whatever. This channel is basically just a personal diary for me that I'm doing mainly for fun. Got nothing against anyone who disagrees, I realized these are complex topics and me living in CA is very different than someone in Australia, for example. No bad blood here let's all succeed together
