Cold calling will never die the secret is to be prepared and practice the hell out of it. Most people fail because they are too lazy to do this like anything in life you have study and practice hard just like good athletes or sports professionals do.

The gate keeper debacle answered. I don't want to waste his/her time and I just want to ask a few questions.

25% is waay to low. I cold call in Greece and (well at least here) it's more like 60%. But yeah it's true, people take their phones everywhere. By the way small tip for you people out there: I noticed people here mostly like (and have the time) to talk when they finished working NOT at work. Most of my good calls and appointments are during that time.
