The Salkantay Trek is an alternative route to hike to Machu Picchu on 4 to 5 days. One of the greatest and hardest adventures I did in my life. Unlike the traditional Inca Trail this route is considered for more hikers so you do not need to wait for one of the limited Inca Trail passes.
Also great: usually you can use horses to carry your clothes for some parts of the trail! This is the first day out of five where we visit the Humantay Lake and sleep on 3900m above sea level at Soraypampa.
