Burt Reynolds and Sally Field had the most popular relationship of the 1970s but their relationship wasn't the fairytale romance it was shown to be. Over 30 years later, Burt still saw Sally as the love of his life and she opened up about how she felt trapped and controlled in their relationship. This is a story of love, heartbreak, devastation and regrets. There were words left unspoken between the pair when Burt passed away in 2018.

Yes. Why? Because all superstar men are just like Burt. And all men, in general, are willing to play the field even after they get married, as long as opportunities (sexy ladies) keep making themselves available and the men can still perform romantically for them. What matters is whether or not we can hold onto our men and keep them coming back home to us. Don't try to change the behavior of men that they have had since our creation. Instead, work within the parameters of their male behavior to keep that ring on their finger for as long as we can remain happy together. How long can a man and woman be together? Well, depending on how much in love they are, how kinky and sexual the relationship is, and how good their communication is, they could have 5, 10, maybe 15 years together or more on average. If sex is less important to them, the relationship might last a good deal longer. If the man and woman have very different levels of sexual desires, then that will create severe problems in the relationship and will significantly reduce the time together where they can be happy. What happens is that couples, no matter how beautiful and sexy they might be, eventually get tired of each other and want to find somebody new. In light of this reality, it would be better for couples to NOT get married. Marriage allows the state (government) to become a party to the marriage contract between the man and the woman. This is a very bad idea. And now, gay couples get to be as miserable as everyone else. LOL! Just don't get married.

I worked at the airport in Miami when Burt Reynolds was filming the movie Semi-Tough in the 1970s. He was the only actor in the film to interact with the airport employees. In between filming scenes, he would go around chatting, and signing autographs, he was very friendly. I remember him as a down-to-earth, sweet, funny man. I also read Sally Field's memoir and have been a huge fan since I was a little girl watching her in the Flying Nun. People are complicated...

That's awesome that you read her memoir! Our childhood makes a huge impact on who we become as adults, and unfortunately, if some people aren't able to process the negativity or trauma of their past, it does end up affecting their future, and who they chose to have as a partner. Thanks for your comments Angela! We always love reading what you have to share with us!

I don't think Burt Reynolds knows the difference in a good relationship. Sally Fields was independent while Burt Reynolds had demons he was fighting and wanted Sally to take care of him? What kind of relationship was that? Take care of a man that didn't want to take care of himself? That's not what a relationship is about it is a two-way street.

That was Sally's charm. She was indeed beautiful but in a 'plain' way, and that's how her incredible charisma and charm was able to shine. I truly think actresses like Margot Robbie are overrated in that yes they can act decently but it's their looks that light up a screen. That fades and that's why many actresses get depressed and caught up in chopping up their faces and bodies to reclaim a youth that's impossible to regain. And yet, when you watch Meryl or Sally, even in their later years they still shine so bright, command your attention and hold it.

It's possible to have dazzling beauty and dazzling acting chops, which Meryl Streep has always had. She was never the girl next door in the looks department. Anyway, why should we have to put down one actress in order to appreciate another. Comparing Margot Robbie, Meryl Streep, and Sally Field is like comparing apples, bananas, and oranges.

But he wasn't willing to do what was necessary to make the relationship work. He had issues he didn't deal with. No doubt she was the love of his life, the one who got away. My dad was friendly with Burt in the late 70's when this was going on. I was introduced to Burt and Sally as a kid during the filming of Smokey and the Bandit II at Burt's ranch in Jupiter, FL. Sally did her own thing and Burt hung out with the guys always holding a beer. I recall seeing some of the cast members there that would go on to make The Cannonball Run as well. I guess it was going into production right after. But you could see in the film that their relationship was over by this point.

Sally is a very under appreciated actress. Her childhood trauma was unaddressed and definitely affected her choices in men. Burt too was a underrated actor too often exploited as a good ole boy and hound dog. Burt lived most of his life labored under a desire for his dad to acknowledge his adulthood Neither of them had the emotional balance to make a real non toxic relationship. That said Sally wanted to have a movie star and Burt was hot and interested. I do not believe Sally loved Burt he was a trophy and was able to take her into the A list world she wanted. It was sad for both but my gut is that Burt was that Burt was much more wounded.

There's a great lesson to this. If you aren't together anymore, don't waist your life. Let go and move on. If you know the reason it didn't work out and can both be truthful about it, then fix it quick. But I believe a lot of men hold on after a relationship ends. Women typically move on quicker. It's interesting that she would say she was glad he died before he could read her book, yet she had no way of knowing he would die, so I'm sure she would have believed he would read her book and be hurt by it.

@@rf4537 ..... Okay just reading from what you started shows who was triggered , it wasn't me. Sally was the pne who got away. Burt was the typical ego driven male. The idea of a woman not charmed by his laugh & not smile was too much for his delicate fragile ego to handle. Other women after Sally could attest to his toxic behavior. Sally was lucky to have escaped Burt's clutches. He was an okay actor, cute laugh & had a nice smile. Some men can't deal with an independent thinking & acting single woman. Sally was more than a pretty face. Burt was a skirt chaser & use to getting his own way with women except for Sally Field. RIP 🙏.

I believe that if they would’ve met without the ominous flow of Hollywood, they might’ve worked. Burt would maybe be a better man then. I love Sally and her strong will. She’s a true beauty. I’m glad she left Burt.

Why not make some money out of the miserable relationship by writing a best selling tell all book? Ain't that the American imperialist capitalist dogged system. Tell all Sally, I'll read every word, she suffered at the hands of a creepy step-dad.

Once all the lust and thrust has gone out of a relationship you need something else to fill the void. You need a mental connection besides a physical one and if you don't have that, then you have nothing!!. People are turned on by a partners mind and charisma, it's not all about how attractive the person is physically. That's just superficial!!! - The opinion of a 67 year old male who has sewn a few wild oats over the years, namely me. 🙂
