According to wikipedia, salmagundi is “a cold dish or salad made from different ingredients which may include meat, seafood, eggs, cooked and raw vegetables, fruits, or pickles.” So, imagine my surprised and delight that the Salmagundi Sandwich from Keen’s Cook Book of 1931 just two of those things. I mean, there are a couple more ingredients but not that hodgepodge of wackiness.

In the US, you are plussing up with arugula, if you were in the UK or Commonwealth, you would be rocketing up that sandwich.

As a former pirate, salmagundi *requires* hard cooked egg, aka cackle fruit. I think Chef was more historically accurate but I'm not remembering that guest well

I’m from Nova Scotia and salmagundi here, is jarred pickled herring and onions. Hadn’t heard the term used another way, interesting! Thanks for the cool sandwiches!

I’d definitely eat the sandwich without the horseradish. Not a fan. But I think a strong yogurt sauce with raw garlic, lots of cracked black pepper, and maybe za’atar would be a reasonable sub.

You often say “I would make that again” but like… when??? You literally make a new sammich every day so when would you ever have time to revisit a tasty sammich from the past? Are you eating sammiches for lunch AND dinner‽ Perhaps even for brekkie as well?

So I say "I'm gonna finish and I would make it again" or "I will make it again," indicating future intent, as way to add more color to the rating than just the number. I am tracking all of them on a spreadsheet but yes, I really don't make sandwiches outside of Sandwiches of History these days.

There’s something wrong with the audio in this episode. I compared it to the one from yesterday and you definitely sound different today. It’s like your microphone was muffled by something or maybe it was upside down. Please have your audio engineer look into this. 😉
