Thanks, I'm giving it a good go up there this year, I've racked up quite a few days so far trying to find the fish.

@@abakerslife Yes tell me, try switching thing around in terms of depth, fly if not already. I have a bad habit of not changing tactics, fly etc.

I'm trying to fish pools twice if possible ie first with a Sunray style fly and then a heavier conehead tube but if they aren't there you can't catch them.

Just started watching your videos. Nice to see you doing your bit for in stream habitat - all those woody debris going in the river as you slid down the bank 😆 fair play for getting down to that pool. Looking forward to watching your other videos.

Cheers, I'm doing it so nobody gets the idea of releasing beavers down here to do that.

Great video. I was concerned for your waders going down that bank then concerned for your eyebrows when you lit the stove 😂. Good to see Karla on the bank with you again. Tight lines for the next trip.

Well funnily enough they now leak in the arse end! Any joy up north yet? They are trickling in down here but not in any great numbers.

Particularly impressed with your culinary skills pal. And the added bonus is that you appear to have asbestos hands.

Watched a few of your videos,, on the one you did on the upper Findhorn you said something along the lines your a bit of a green horn. Best advice,,, instead of running around from river to river get to know one, each river,,,beat and pool is different,, one's I like are the cheap as chips one's,,, river Lossiemouth,,,60 quid a season. And you never seen anyone on it, great little river. Nairn was 150, and both had miles to go at. Moved back down recently and back on the liddle water ,great little river too. One observation,, to long a line. Especially on the smaller rivers.. straight across ,,and down fast and into there faces,,,o and very light hold of the line for those tiny pluckes that develop, no resistance. And flys ,keep it simple my old pal on the nairn Gordon rennie only ever fished allys had a million fish to em. My favourite is silver stoats tubes mainly,, good for both sea trout and salmon.

Cheers for the pointers from about August onwards last year I mostly fished small silver stoat tubes and had the majority of my fish, both salmon and seatrout on them. I will be visiting the Liddle at some point this year as I know have access to a club beat. It's good to know it is a productive river. Tight lines

@@abakerslife yep,,anything you need to know just ask,don't mind helping out. And the liddle is infact a good salmon river in it's own right.

I did not start salmon fishing until I was 50, being right handed I persevered until I could single or double Spey off of either shoulder, it is surprisingly easy.

Im not a Salmon angler but my uncle was and he was pretty decent, he cast across the river and let it swing around and down but i notice you cast almost directly down stream, whats the difference and why ? Im a trout/grayling angler and cast across as well, each to their own though 😊 Another great video (thanks) and great to see the dog back out, shes a stunner. Looking forward to your next one.
@abakerslife
@abakerslife 2 ай бұрын
Thanks, in that particular case I was casting at a shallow angle to slow the swing of the fly. The water was up and flowing fast that day so a fly cast straight across would cause a belly to form in the fly line which the current would pull downstream causing the fly to be pulled up to the surface and whip across the river without the salmon getting a good look at it. So the theory goes any way. If the current is slower then casting across might be the right presentation for the day. Usually I like to do a mixture of both to present the fly in different ways to the fish.

@abakerslife cheers for that, im going to give the salmon a bash at some point so trying to watch and learn as much as possible. This weather must be doing your nut in, the rivers are a mess up here. Looking forward to your next video 🍻

Hmm you held the rod and felt the weight of the fish so obv i'll give you that one but the it had to be a trout because it was so shallow i wont give you as i have sen so many salmon standing so shallow their back fin was actually out of the water. I had hopes for this vid but as the conditions didnt increase at the rate you where hoping for sadly no salmon where landed but there is always next time and i still enjoyed the vid:)

The water certainly looked good that day but I've had a good few days like that already this year. The fish are coming in to my local rivers but in a trickle. This month and next should see the main run of spring salmon on that river so I will just keep the faith and keep fishing it.
