Salomon's QST 98 returns unchanged for fall 2023. The ski remains a surprisingly lively carver with true all-mountain versatility. A very strong offering from Salomon. From the 2023 WWSRA on-snow demo at Mammoth Mountain, California.

This Weight/Radius/Shape/Width is the famous package that was "stolen" from DPS Wailer 99 T2 Hybrids (most decorated ski ever), which was stolen from Ross Souls. Nothing new. This is an amazing ski for athletes, tree skiers, powder, soft snow. With that kind of rocker and front shape that's all you need for powder. They will float you. It has that "sweet spot". Amazing ski. True West Coast ski. American type of skiing. No metal, no groomer non sense. Very hard to find skis like that these days, because they build those stiff skis with metal for hard pack.

I'm thinking of buying these as my only ski to do it all. How are these on ice in the morning? Im a slower intermediate starting to do more blacks. Coming from enforcer 94s but find them alot of work. Im 5'6" 150 lbs.

I thought their edge grip on hard snow was good.

What a coincidence.... just watched your original QST 98 "Quest!" ;) review this morning, only to have your 2023/2024 pop up in my feed in the afternoon. I'm trying to decide on an all-mountain pair, so based on your excitement I'm guessing it's still Fischer 102 over this as a fun all rounder?

I think they are both excellent skis and worth trying if you have the opportunity to see how their differences strike you. I do own a pair of the Rangers. I also think the new Mantra and the Bent 100 are excellent -- reviews pending...

@@AndyLewicky Thanks for the reply! Yeah, the Mantra is likely too much ski for me and not as playful as I'd like. I'm in BC for another couple of months before I head back east, so I'll likely jump on either a new Ranger or go a little funky with the QST. Looking forward to other reviews, I enjoy your take on skis, you seem very chill yet insightful :)

im an intermediate skier, went from skiing (156-163cm skis at 5’8) super short park skis as all mountain skis and impulsively bought some bent 110 in 180cm as an ice coast rider. fell in love with them but i think we got lucky snow wise last season so i’m thinking of ordering those in 98 as my groomer/fun ski in the 176! would like to know your opinion

what kind of conditions will you be skiing and what are your goals?

@@AndyLewicky it goes from ice rink to a foot of fresh pow over night, conditions are really variable! i love a playful ski with a lot of pop and rocker, i do 50/50 on and off piste, i tend to go towards larger skis under foot

@@ludoms100 conventional wisdom would be go narrower for ice and All Mountain versatility, wider for powder and soft snow. Playful & pop says narrower to me as well. The Bent is a great ski, but you might find the QST a little more versatile on hard snow

I can't give any advice, but QST doesn't have metal in them so they're not a hard charger, but that's about it, they look good on everything else, amazing floater, not best carving but maybe most fun carving. I am ordering these myself btw.@@ludoms100

Thank you for this review. I am an advanced skier at 6'2, 143 pounds. I just got a great deal for these for the length 189. After reading reviews about how qst 98 ski short, I'm very tempted to buy the 189. Do you think I will be fine on the 189 despite my lightweight?

I believe the rule is height trumps weight when it comes to ski length, but personal preference matters more. Do you tend to want pivoty skis in tight places, or longer boards for stability and speed? And, of course, if you have the option of demoing both sizes, definitely try that :)

I would go for speed more. The main point is the 183 model is 60% more expensive. @@AndyLewicky

Nice review. I am an intermediate skier that is mostly on front side / groomed but only out about 6 times a year now a days. I am looking for a new pair to replace a set I bought used. I am 6'2" and 240lbs so a bigger guy. Would these be a good pair or would you have any recommendations for someone my size?

These could be an interesting choice for you, but since you describe yourself as intermediate, you might want to look into something like Rossignol's Experience line, which would nicely fit your needs and help you develop your skills -- hope that helps!
