The Wasatch Ultimate Ridge Linkup (WURL) is a litmus test for trail-runners in the summer, but has never been done in the winter. A 58km continuous ridgeline visible from downtown Salt Lake City, UT, it forms a horseshoe around Little Cottonwood Canyon and the ski areas of Alta and Snowbird. After attempting the marathon in the summer, Mali Noyes and Lani Bruntz set out to ski and explore some of the Wasatch's most iconic peaks and complete a continuous traverse of the WURL in the winter.

@@stevescuba8809 Are you sure? I looked everywhere on the web and couldn't find a backcountry camp restriction for winters. You know the ski resorts are also in watershed right? And that definitely causes more pollution to the snow than a few crazy people doing winter backcountry camping!

theres something special about outdoor people, and its exemplified by the moment at 6:00 when one of the women says 'yeah its feeling pretty rough' and the other starts giggling. laughing through the sufferfest is something that makes us truly fun to be around.

Super cool but my understanding is that it is super illegal to camp in the watershed portion of the Wasatch during the winter. @@phin422 That could defiantly be the case, that would make sense to me. In reality I am hoping Salomon tv or one of the athletes, maybe Alta or someone will comment saying just that as they would not say that if they did not have the information verified. And I hope that it is the case as I have looked at many overnight trips in the winter that have never happened due to difficulty in finding information on the Watershed and winter camping I have always been told no by public utilities customer service as well as the town of Alta.

At first glance from the title and intro, I thought this was some rad accomplishment. But in reality, it is just two people skiing in the mountains around WURL on aesthetic lines touring 9 miles a day.... I don't get the whole hype and trying to make this more than it actually is. Any of us who know how to use an Ice axe and a rope could have taken it to the next level with ease. Great video but let's keep it real and sell it as is....

Sorry you feel this way Tomas! We think 37 miles, 17,500 vertical feet, exposed on ridge lines, over in 4 days, while camping is pretty incredible!
@tomaskazokas8123
@tomaskazokas8123 3 жыл бұрын
@@SalomonTV The adventure is great I agree I don't deny it, also for sure a lot of training is required to accomplish it. But this is not the WURL. Doing the WURL means staying true to the ridge and this is skiing some peaks which make up the WURL. Its in the name: Ridge Link up, if you are not staying on the ridge and keep dropping down each time a rock/ice climb technical section comes up, then it is not ridge link up. Maybe ridge fragments... WURF. The idea of exposure is there because most of us ultra athletes know what it takes to do the WURL in the summer. I have not seen the athletes on any sickening drops over cliffs in this video. I could see only in the background where the real challenges of the WURL lie. Idk why claim something that was not accomplished or try to create an illusion of such accomplishment.
