I could listen forever to either one of these men but to have them together what a treat. I have just a few books by each that I treasure, please keep writing and I will endeavor to afford them to read.

Funny! Very important discussion to hear right now. Thanks, Nashville Public Library! :) Didn't know Kavanaugh was chosen for his permissive stance toward the executive. A Lapdog Congress is EXACTLY what we have!

I believe 44:32 that the mission of a true historian is not to allow his or her own political bias to compromise the narrative.

Presidents cushion themselves publicly from admissions of liability regarding aggressions because of their legacies, I think. Their characters are revealed in terms of self-scrutiny, something Kennedy could do but Johnson couldn't, publicly. His guilt over consigning boys to their deaths haunted him, but his pride superceded him. Masculinity or the insecurity thereof factors into their ideology. Johnson believed no little peasant country was gonna bring his big country and all its largesse to its knees. Kennedy was intellectually and ethically more evolved. He was also a pragmatist more than ideologue. War is either in your blood or isn't. It is always tragic. It is ultimately a lose-lose, unless we have no choice but to respond as with Pearl Harbor. How much is based on false pride and throwing good money after bad. Kennedy did issue a memo late '63 stating he wanted to recall 1000 troops. War is a huge investment of human and monetary capital. And Trump is a gambler, who'd throw away our freedoms and good will for sport.

Absolutely wonderful discussion! However, let me correct Mr. Beschloss....Mr. Woodrew Wilson was a segregationist and supported the KKK and reversed many political gains at the Federal level for many Black Americans. Ravi Peiris M.D.

You have to cringe when trying to reconcile Beschloss' last quote with the incumbent. It was probably written with him in mind but he ain't got no time for readin' stuff.
