Great video! Love the microscope slides and the free-hand work on the ride line side. It’s nice that the machine you can use water on to prevent ruining the temper. Nicely done Mate!

. I’d love to see the 100,000 grit result. Maybe 100,000 grit would be 2 atoms

Love the video! Would you be able to sharpen shears on the Shapton stones alone? Granted not a professional quality shear but a cheapo shear?
@MikeTheSharpener4 жыл бұрын
mistermatsuda, Yes, one could do all the work with the Shapton stones. Smarter financially too 😉

Also what controls the angle on the front I see that rocking motion.

Why does anyone use a clamp base system by giving away control? It takes time and is more dangerous than the simple Sharp-N-Go mini with it's guide clip. There's a video showing how to make your own guide clip at no Charge!!! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pbaWa5ujsMu7c58.html

Why is the other side on shears always finished on a machine or flat hone wile even the most expencive and delicate knives are always hand finished on stones

Why not test on hair that's what the end user is going to be cutting.

It doesn’t matter what one uses to test sharpness. What matters is having the sensitivity to notice the subtle differences between sharp and almost sharp. Thanks for commenting!

How do you learn to do this?

Hello there! There are salon shears sharpening courses at many sharpening conventions. NTBSG is an organization which teaches and certifies Shears Sharpeners. There is Bonika Shears, and on KZfaq you can check out JimSharpBlog. Thanks for watching!

Talk to Ray Pope at Groomers Supply. He makes a machine at nearly half the cost, twice the value. Ive worked with the Hamaguri, Hira-To, and Schimech machine...Rays is by far the best money can buy

Why have a system that requires camping in and out when you can make a sharp-N-Go clip? The "Sharp-N-Go Mini" (KZfaq search it) Is easier quicker, has 3 power sources and more portable with a simple guild system that is more safe and faster to a high quality finish...
@cuttingedgecustomsharpenin12176 жыл бұрын
Robert Curtis I'd like to see your machine run 6hr a day, 6 days a week without stopping....and get 15 plus years service before I'd have to change any part of the machine

If you knew the drive system I used durability would not be an argument. I threw it in a lake pulled it out and turned it on. Would your machine survive such treatment? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bcmUkq5o3tumeYU.html

Robert Curtis though I can appreciate your lake testing...i don't require my machine to swim.

Most all factories only use 3000 microns for ride finish, You are just pissing in the wind using 16,000. Waste of time.
@conankilcoyne4 жыл бұрын
See Drews comment below regarding the facrory finish. The first thing I do with brand new, quality chisels and plane irons is sharpen them. When you dig into ebony or other dense woods with a high silica content, you learn within seconds how much of a difference a finely honed edge can make.

@@sharpone40 You have a fair point, if your short reply relates to the material that a scissors is asked to cut and the law of diminishing returns. It may not be worth it to go that high for paper. I haven't enough experience to expand on my original comment. All the best, C

Yes, it is possible if honed gently so as to not round the new edge
